One of the many white villa`s in Stavanger.

Saturday 27 February 2010

This is another photo from yesterdays walk.
It has been a week, where all the schools have had winter holiday. Many families have spent the time in cottages up in the mountains, skiing and relaxing. Here you can see an empty playground, with a sculpture...
The mountains are more obvious when they are covered in snow.

Today it has been milder with a bit of rain.... and some more snow.

Friday 26 February 2010

We were both out for a walk this morning....

Thursday 25 February 2010

A house with a view.

Wednesday 24 February 2010

How much would you have paid for a main course like this??
I was out last night, and suddenly thought that food prices probably vary quite a lot depending on where you live.
From the place: "Matmagasinet." Nice and tasty food!:-)

(The day after: I paid 198 Kroner for the food. (No drinks in that price.)
That is approx. 33,5 US dollars, or 25 Euros or 22 English pounds.)

Tuesday 23 February 2010

I think the horses from yesterdays photo belonged to a nearby farm.
We have riding schools in and outside Stavanger.
Many (mostly teenage) girls spend hours in the stables, and some have their own horse.
I was thinking that it is very rare to see horses out in the streets, like I have seen so many times in the UK..... and then suddenly I met this young girl with the horse, in a residential area a 10 minute drive from the city centre....

Monday 22 February 2010

Jæren, is the name of the area south of Stavanger.
I love the open flat landscape, the coast and the colors.
Yesterday, it was a bit difficult to drive, due to the wind and snow.
But I still found it very beautiful...... as so many times before.

Sunday 21 February 2010

As I told you yesterday, we got more snow.
This is what it looked like this afternoon, driving out in the country side, just south of Stavanger.

Saturday 20 February 2010

This photo was taken this afternoon from Grasholmen, one of the islands in Stavanger.
It is the first of several islands we get to when using the big city bridge.
And the view is towards the city centre.
It is still cold, and a few hours later it started SNOWING again.
And it is still SNOWING.....

Friday 19 February 2010

Last Monday the pupils came back to a "new" school. Lots of work have been going on for a very long time. The result looks nice, so I guess all these 16-17-18-19 years old are happy! The news paper used words like the best one in Norway!! Well, this is just the entrance.... more to follow.

Thursday 18 February 2010

Today I was walking through "Amfi Madla", - a huge shopping mall.
"TV-Vest" was busy with making a film to promote a very nice place for food and drinks.

Wednesday 17 February 2010

Karsten, is studying construction engenieering and also working a couple of evenings in a shop that is open until midnight... I am soooo happy that we have a few places that are open late and also on Sundays!
If you look behind Karsten, you can see the new type of cupboard, a place to "hide" cigarettes and tobacco.

Tuesday 16 February 2010

Some roads have been cleared of snow.
But still plenty of ice here and there.

Monday 15 February 2010

Tunnel vision

Sunday 14 February 2010

It is "Valentines Day", and I thought that this decorated floor sums it up: "ELSKER DEG" is "LOVE YOU" and as it says on the window to the left, "it is personal" :)

Saturday 13 February 2010

This is the "Steiner" school.
A private school with what I find to be an interesting architecture!

Friday 12 February 2010

Hopefully, the rest of the snow fell off, or melted, fairly quickly.

Thursday 11 February 2010

More snow this morning.
Not everyone has a garage, and some have to start the day off with digging out their car.
This is where the postmen park their cars overnight.
A little bit of work to do before they start delivering the post.

Wednesday 10 February 2010

The SALES are still on.
Now the prices are as low as -70 % !
This is a window I passed in Kirkegaten.
I liked the simple STYLE.

Tuesday 9 February 2010

STATOIL, is a leading Norwegian company in oil and gas production.
The headquaters is at Forus in Stavanger.
This is the main entrance, and just a small part of one of the huge company buildings.

Monday 8 February 2010

Time to wash the car!

Sunday 7 February 2010

It is all melting now.....

Saturday 6 February 2010

Runway 1-8 at Stavanger airport at Sola.

Friday 5 February 2010

More work has to be done....

Thursday 4 February 2010

A narrow road going down to the Gandsfjord.

Wednesday 3 February 2010

Here is a view from the park, that shows how close The Stavanger Katedralskole (an old and popular college) is to the little chapel and to the Cathedral.
The statue is of a famous author, Arne Garborg, who died back in 1924.

Tuesday 2 February 2010

I found it a bit ironic that the car and driver had ended up here.... just in front of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, which is situated close to Stavanger airport.
The people working there have full responsibility for Southern Norway, and by that I mean on land, all ships and aircraft, and including the oil rigs out in the North Sea.

The car had gone off of the icy road. From what I could see, nobody was injured.

WOOD is this months theme days challenge, and you can see what others have chosen here: Click here to view thumbnails for all participants
WOOD is the material most houses are made of in Norway.
Today I will show you a house, that is kept in its original style, and called "Jærhus". There are only approximately 100 left in the area. One of the most typical thing is the way it is built on both sides. It was to protect against the wind, and was also a storage place.
