LE SOLEAL.

It has been a beautiful sunny day today.
And the tourists on LE SOLEAL, which arrived earlier today, have had the opportunity to explore our city and also to watch the cyclists from TOUR DES FJORDS (link: http://www.tourdesfjords.no/?lang=en_GB)
The man in the photo is working for the port authority.
He told me that it was the first time LE SOLEAL has arrived in Stavanger, and she will be back again later this summer.

A bit of sunshine. (Yesterday)

Still a few tulips left in the garden.
Many did not like all the rain and wind.

Hinna Cemetery.

Hinna Cemetery looks pretty.
( It is from 1916 )

In 1992 one part of it became a cemetery for muslims too.
The first one in the Stavanger / Rogaland area.

Tourists from Wales.

Yesterday, Gabrielle (on the left), and Ann-Marie, were lucky with the weather.
They had a nice walk up the mountain to the famous PULPIT ROCK.

Sporty young women from Newport in Wales!

Plenty of rain today, but that did not stop them from having a look around the city.

I asked were they were staying, and they told me about the hotel at the hospital!
To me that sounds a bit strange, but they are not the first tourist to tell me about it.

What I found amusing was that they had had breakfast with 11 new born babies,
and their mums:)

They found Norway very expensive,
and told me about the cost of a taxi ride from the airport to the hotel!!

I can assure everyone that most of us here think that taking a taxi is very expensive!

Eurovision 2015. Vienna / Austria.

Watching TV tonight
I am not a really fan of the European Song Contest, but this is what I am watching now.
This is just a snap shot from TV ( NRK 1) and I wonder if it is true that Norway will come on the top 10 list with the song: "A Monster Like Me" by Debra Scarlett and Kjetil Mørland.
Time will tell....

NOT made in Norway.

I still find it strange to see all the things, clothes and souvenirs made in China, and as in this photo, handmade children's clothes from Peru.

Why can't Stavanger tell tourists that we actually have many people who are excellent ambassadors for real HANDMADE items from Norway.

As a tourist I would have felt cheated if I came home with something that I thought was typical for the country I visited.....only to find out later that it was made on the other side of the planet.

Where to park?

The parking warden sounded determined to tell the people working on what is soon going to be Starbucks, how they could get permission to drive and park nearby.

Work by ROA.

Yes, I know it is not fair to show just part of the artistic work by ROA.

This one was done as a part of the NUART FESTIVALS, back in 2012.

I parked the car nearby and suddenly saw this fascinating work!
One day I hope to show you more.

It is our National Day today.

Today I have seen many beautiful national costumes, we call them BUNAD.
Here you see a male "bunad" on one of todays models.
He was out with his pet pig, GOLIAT, who was happy to be out celebrating and sniffing around.
Goliat was also decorated with a ribbon in red-white-blue.

Some people start their barbecue season today, and most children are allowed to eat as much ice cream as they can manage.

Rain and sunshine.
There are always lots of things happening around the whole country, and celebrations going on at schools, with family and friends, out on oil rigs as well as abroad when we celebrate our 17.MAI / Norways National Day.

Inside the Indian restaurant.

Mogul, the old Indian restaurant has a new fresh style,
(I still miss Rita and her always welcoming smile)
Good food, and still a nice place with new owners.

Ascension Day.

Today is a Christian Holy Day in Norway.
Ascension Day, and most shops and offices have been closed.
Lots of people have also taken tomorrow free from work and gone away for a long weekend.

Life at the airport was quieter today.

Next to the city bridge.

The French graffiti artist, Tilt,
made this for the NUART STREET ART FESTIVAL last year.
It´s an American hand-grenade.
It is close to the city bridge, and it is huge.

The yacht club at Jåttåvågen.

In Stavanger there are yacht clubs, sometimes with long waiting lists to get a berth for a boat.
This is just one of them down at the yacht club in Jåttåvågen.
The weather is not very pleasant at the moment. Here you see a view over Gandsfjord with the mountains on the other side.

Happy weekend!

Norways Liberation Day

It is our Liberation Day today.
Actually it is 70 years today, since the war was over and Norway was free again .
Flags are up, and the veterans have received their medals, some presented by the king, some by politicians and some given out by different majors.

The news had interviews with people who were in the navy, and those who came back suffering from trauma and perhaps struggled for many many years to talk about what they had been through.

Todays image is a tribute to all of those who actually did a tremendous job in the navy.

The weather is not very predictable these days.
Tonight I saw this rainbow over the Hinna Park area.

Kirkegaten

Kirkegaten (Church road) is quite narrow, as you can see here.
It is only open to vehicles in the mornings to deliver goods or to pick up rubbish.
Work is going on in the old building on the right.

"Revolution"

Not so many old or small businesses left in town.
This one has survived, and they have a much more updatet and different style in the windows.

What has a bra to do with revolution?
Well, back in the 60's and 70's there were women who were burning them!
How times have changed!

Not long ago our PM Erna Solberg showed the nation where she puts her mobile when she does not have pockets or a handbag to use. Take a look here:

Do you want to see how other people around the world have posted images relating to revolutions (CDP Theme day), than you can use this link: http://cdpbthemeday.blogspot.com.au
