Art by Kjell Pahr-Iversen

The gallery Sølvberget (at the Culture House) is showing art by Kjell Pahr-Iversen.

This is made back in 1966 and also very nice, but different to what his work looks like now.
The artist was born in Stavanger, and still lives here.
He will turn 80 later this year. Still painting and still very popular with art collectors.
His work is also known outside Norway.

The exhibition is open well into August.

I wish you a HAPPY WEEKEND, from a summery and sunny Stavanger today.

Give some money (?)

I saw her in town yesterday.
I don't know her nationality, but she was not from Scandinavia.
I heard her speaking on the mobile.

The message around her neck said : "Please give a bit of money towards food and medicine. I have no job. I will send money to my grandchildren. Thank You."

I just hope that all the tourists don`t think that this is how Norway treats their elderly inhabitants.

Some of the tourists gave Euros, and she quickly removed it in to a purse covered up under her skirt and apron.

I feel sorry for people begging, but I guess it can be a very profitable business for those who organize work like this.

Anton and Margareth.

What a lovely sunny day!

This couple ANTON and MARGARETH from the Netherlands were passengers on one of the cruise ships that visited our city today.
They had been visiting Stavanger 10 years ago, and thought it had changed. Difficult for me to say what has changed, but this time they had no rain, so that was good.
They will continue the cruise to Kristiansand and Oslo before heading back home via a few more stops.
Home is "Sweet lake city,"as  ZOETERMEER is called, and it is situated half way between The Hague and Rotterdam.

Why do all Dutch people speak English so well?
I don't know.

Anyway, have a nice holiday Anton and Margareth.

Ice cream.

The driver of an ice-cream van waiting for the ferry to Tou.
Today it was sunny and slightly warmer, so a bit warmer now, and I am ready for my favourite ice lolly.

In Norwegian Is = ice-cream.

Number 913

Number 913 is delivering beer to one of the many pubs-bars-restaurants near the harbour.
Munkholm is a low alcohol beer from the brewery Ringnes in Oslo.

After all the rain we were lucky to get a bit of sunshine today.
Blustery wind and +14C.

Why?

Why do some people have a strong need to put their signature on walls like here?

Stavanger seen from the city bridge.

Stavanger seen from the city bridge.
Yes, we have plenty of rain!

Saturday 24 June 2017

Souvenirs.

Do you buy souvenirs when you go on holiday?
As you can see, we have had rain today (and a bit of sunshine too)

Friday 23 June 2017

A very rainy Midsummer Celebration in the Stavanger Region..

It is Midsummer's Eve.

We have some good food and cold drinks on the table soon.

Outside it is like this: http://pent.no/forecast/Stavanger;58.96530;5.71796

It is probably as empty as this image shows in some of the parking areas in town.

School holidays have started and many people have gone on holiday or away for the weekend.

I hope YOU are just where you want to be to celebrate Midsummer's Eve or
St.Hans, as we call it.

Thursday 22 June 2017

Kannik

I want to show you a bit of colour today, from the area Kannik.

(But if you are in the area today there is not that much of a summer feel outside, the real situation is rain rain rain and +14C)

Cat lover?

Perhaps a cat and a cat lover is living up there?
Or perhaps several cats and cat lovers are living there?

8 YEARS...

I celebrated 8 years of blogging this afternoon, with coffee and cake in the kitchen.

8 YEARS WITH BLOGGING.

EVERY DAY A NEW PHOTO.

Thanks to all of you who take time with commenting and "likes".

Thanks to fellow bloggers who do the same, or have another type of blog, which I find inspiring.

Thanks to fellow bloggers who I have met over the years, some several times, like Mo in London.

HAVE A NICE SUMMER EVERYONE!

Fina vere!

It is dialect and that can be difficult.... but the message is clear:
From where you find this wall, there is just walking distances to all what you need in town.

I guess it has to do with getting more people using the centre, instead of going to shopping malls.

Saturday 17 June 2017

Smoking.

Less people are smoking, and there are rules and regulations in Norway.
Still possible to smoke outside restaurants, but not always popular.

The old "sign" ( Smoking forbidden) that I saw at the air show last weekend, reminded me about the old days when the smokers could smoke most places.

I guess it is the same many places in Europe now.

Friday 16 June 2017

The adder.

This is the only adder I have seen this year, and I am out walking every day....
(In Norwegian we call it Hoggorm or Huggorm.)

Thursday 15 June 2017

An event this summer.

One of the things I will do SOON.

Go and take a look at the gallery at the Culture house if you have the chance.

Tuesday 13 June 2017

I have added WISTERIA on my wishlist.

Monday 12 June 2017

HAPPY MONDAY!

It is a bit of rain in the air and +12C.

Today I will show you just a snapshot taken one early morning in one of the narrow little roads in the city centre.

I know the feeling.... just HAVE TO find out what is happening in the book I am reading.
So when the woman came walking towards me.... I grabbed my mobile phone in the pocket, and caught the moment.

What was she reading? Jo Nesbø

I hope she will forgive me for publishing this, without asking her.
It just made me so happy to see a person so occupied with READING.

So what are you reading at the moment?

I am reading Elena Ferrante's book " Historia om set nye namnet" ( book number 2)

The Air Show is over for 2017.

This is another photo from SOLA AIRSHOW 2017.
The plane and people represented the Royal Netherlands Air Force, and they are heading back home tomorrow morning.

The airshow has been a success and the weather has been good.
I have never seen so many men with huge cameras, lenses that looked like they belonged to paparazzi....

They must have got some great action shots!

Saturday 10 June 2017

Sola Airshow 2017

No rain today!
Perfect for the SOLA AIRSHOW this weekend!
What a great event!
I have seen and learned new things.
Lots of people inside, and lots of people watching outside from all around the airport.

Some more images from the Airshow taken by my new mobile you can see at #stavangerdailyphoto

Friday 9 June 2017

A busy weekend ahead.

Just an image from my archive .....
British Airways has direct daily flights from London.

This weekend there will be plenty of planes at the airport.
More to come......

(PS. I just read in the newspaper, June 21. that BA will stop flying to Stavanger.
Sad news.)

NOLA, with the stylish designer items and clothes have closed.
Sad to see that so many shops
have to give up!

Luckily there are some new things happening too.
More about that later...

Sunday 4 June 2017

Jorenholmen.

The parking area Jorenholmen has got some nice artistic work outside.
I am not sure who the artist is, but it was written/signed Nimi and
rh74 on the wall.

Saturday 3 June 2017

Pet XL and Igroom Spa.

Pet XL is the name of a new shop that opened their doors this week at Forus.
It was started by some enthusiasts who are aiming to open several more shops in other Norwegian cities.

The shop is huge, and I will definitely be back for some shopping.

What I thought was great was the fact that they had included a spa for dogs, and will have a vet there too.

The owner of the Igroom Spa had a cute customer that looked like it was just a pleasure to be there.

Friday 2 June 2017

Preparations for tomorrows concerts.

Busy setting up one of the stages for tomorrows many concerts all over the town.
Hopefully it will be nice weather without too much rain.
HAVE FUN!

Thursday 1 June 2017

SUMMER is here.

It is the first day in June.
The sun is shining, and l hope we will have a nice long sunny summer!
This cute car reminds me of  summer days.
It was parked outside "Straensenteret".

I will be pleased if someone can translate the text in the window.
