In the centre of Stavanger, this afternoon around 5 PM.

Monday, 29 November 2010

A nice stroll around Old Stavanger, where shops and galleries were open for the public.
Some of the houses had already decorated their doors and windows for Christmas, it looked very cosy!

Sunday, 28 November 2010

"TASTA KVINNS" is a group of women / a choir, who today sang at the Christmas Market in the area known as Old Stavanger.
I have never seen nor heard them before, but they really created a nice atmosphere!

What can I TELL you about a photo like this?
Well, the TELL logo is nice and the company http://www.tellit.no delivered such professional help Thursday afternoon when my "Mac" suddenly died with a black screen!
Friday afternoon I got the message that it was ready to be picked up again, so this morning my Mac (nicknamed "Big Mac") came back home, and to me that is something to TELL!:)
So I think TELL will be Number One for service in Stavanger!
Thanks TELL (who does not know that I will "TELLIT" to you).

Friday, 26 November 2010

Work is going on at many places around the city to decorate for Christmas.
This is outside the Cathedral and also next to the market place.

Thursday, 25 November 2010

I just had to ask for permission to take a photo when I saw this suitcase.
Mr. Arne Solli told me that he works as a journalist/photographer for the Teachers Union's magazine, and the labels he told me, where both from"business and pleasure trips."
He did not have one from Stavanger,-but perhaps next time he will get one?
Anyway, what do YOU collect when you are out traveling?

Friends waiting for friends.

Tuesday, 23 November 2010

Afternoon at Engøy, part of Stavanger, and one of several islands just 5 minutes by car over a big bridge and through a tunnel to the city centre. To me it looks like an idyllic place to live.

Monday, 22 November 2010

On my way to my dirty car, I passed this dirty Volvo, decorated with a face and a heart.
Than I saw the little label...... "Hells Angels in Stavanger."( Click to enlarge the photo.)
So when I came back home I used internet and found : http://www.hells-angels.no/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=25
I learnt something new, and by clicking on the "links" I saw that "Hells Angels" are in many cities.

Those were the days...
Stewardesses the way they used to dress.
The photo was taken at the Aviation Historical Museum. (Flyhistorisk museum)

Saturday, 20 November 2010

"The Irishman" is a popular and cosy little pub next to the Culture House in the centre of Stavanger. Sometimes they have live music.

Friday, 19 November 2010

Some people have jobs that most of us could not do......

Thursday, 18 November 2010

A street shot taken in the centre of Stavanger, next to the Cathedral.
To Steffe/Leif etc. I don`t know anything about the woman reading:)
I just wanted to show you all, what a beautiful bright winter day we had today!

Wednesday, 17 November 2010

Volkswagen, old and well kept!:)
I just had to look twice.

Tuesday, 16 November 2010

We were some friends who gathered together this afternoon and evening. As you can see Kjersti Haga, the artist who in this snapshot, is holding one of my favorite paintings, is very good at both technique and colors.

Monday, 15 November 2010

This evening I had an interesting chat with Mr. Erik Walle-Lie.
He has retired from the Aviation Industry, but is, and has been using much of his spare time and knowledge at the Historical Air Museum for between 10 and 12 years, where he, and other men meet up and restore the old airplanes that we all like to see in a museum.
Tonight he was working on part of the wing that belongs to a Catalina plane.
I saw the plane too, and I learned that the wing span is as big as 32 meters!!
The number of visitors at most museums are mostly going down, but at this museum the numbers are "reaching the sky", as I read in the newspaper a few days back.

Sunday, 14 November 2010

Today I bought a few Christmas cards that I will send as "snail mail" to friends and family living as far away as South Africa.
Not all people are on "Facebook" or use "Skype".
I know it is still 40 days left, - so I guess I should manage to write and get stamps before December.
Do you send Christmas cards?

Saturday, 13 November 2010

Today has been slightly warmer than the last few days, but there has been a lot of rain.
This road looked more like a river and I am not sure if people were expected to drive or sail along it.

Friday, 12 November 2010

BLACK, is that the main color we use at this time of the year??
Is it the same where you are?
Anyway, that was what I was thinking looking around at the airport this evening.

Thursday, 11 November 2010

Another night shot...
A view of Stavanger center as seen from the other side of the harbour.

Wednesday, 10 November 2010

"One Piece", or perhaps, a cheap copy, is very popular amongst "younger" people.
Maybe not so popular with the parents though?
When my husband sees someone wearing one, he says it reminds him of "Andy Pandy" (A character in a old children's program).

Tuesday, 9 November 2010

Christmas has arrived!
No comment from me, I just wanted to show what sort of displays some shops put out around Christmas.

Monday, 8 November 2010

Last night. VIKING (the main football team in Stavanger) played against Kongsvinger.
The result ended with a 3-1 victory to Viking .
It was a freezing cold evening.............
I hope Viking will continue to do well next season!

Sunday, 7 November 2010

The sky was magnificent last night when the fireworks lit it up!
It was the British International School in Stavanger who arranged this well organized, huge event. There were several hundred people at the event, all ages, and many nationalities. (Yesterdays photo).
People who knew each other from the school, work, and some neighbors enjoyed hot dogs etc.

My favorite drink was the hot cordial with a taste of cinnamon!
A really nice warming drink for a cold night :)

Saturday, 6 November 2010

We have celebrated "Guy Fawkes Night" or "Bonfire Night" as some call it.
This is not a Norwegian thing, but as Stavanger is a very international city, and has a lot of British people living here ( including my husband) this has been an event here for many years.

Friday, 5 November 2010

Every Friday I just have to buy 2 newspapers, mainly because of these two magazines.
D2 is the weekly magazine from http://www.dn.no and A-magasinet is together with http://www.aftenposten.no
We still have the biggest local newspaper delivered at home, but I have to admit that I also read much of the news on internet these days.
Many Norwegian newspapers are struggling. Is it the same where you are?

Thursday, 4 November 2010

More street art.
As yesterday's photo this was also taken near the Stavanger Paintball Arena.
I have never tried paintball, but according to my husband it is great fun!?

Wednesday, 3 November 2010

"Perhaps I never see you again " is the message written on this shutter.

Tuesday, 2 November 2010

Today I have been to a new hotel in Stavanger. "Comfort Hotel Square". Nice and trendy!:)
I asked for the name of the photographer who had taken the huge photo on the wall, but nobody knew. Anyway, they had very tasty food at their restaurant "Food Story".

An eye - catching car seen this afternoon....
