Every time I see a bench I think of the Italian blog,

Please take a look at http://www.abunchofbenches.blogspot.it

This is taken in a friends garden, where the cat as well as the people can enjoy the beauty of real wooden furniture.

Happy weekend!

(The image is from a walk around the lake, Mosvannet.)

My colleague has her horses just outside the house.
Lucky woman and lucky horses!

Thursday 27 June 2013

Our old car had it`s last journey today!:(

Wednesday 26 June 2013

This is the airport late in the evening.

The schools finished last week, so now the teachers as well as the pupils have 8 weeks of holiday!
Some families had started their holidays before school finished.
Charter flights are more expensive now, so I guess there is money to be saved by starting early.

SYDEN, as written on the sign is a name for most sunny holiday places further south in Europe!

Some creative people have created good solutions and smart ideas to give the airport a holiday look.

On a rainy day with +10C and rain outside, it must feel good to see "Palm trees"
at the check in area and knowing in a few hours time there will be many more.

Tuesday 25 June 2013

I met Hanne and her dog Vicki out on the kickbike one morning.

She was back in Stavanger for a few days.
Hanne is a lawyer who is now doing something completely different than working for a big oil company.......
Please take a look at her fantastic blog. http://www.tykopaatur.blogspot.no

Monday 24 June 2013

When we had walked down from the Pulpit Rock, we met little Matthias with his mum Sabine, who are living in Sandnes, a nearby town, south of Stavanger, together with Matthias's grandma Sylvaine who was visiting from Toulouse in France.

They had been up to the top, and as many other people, had a rest outside the kiosk before heading back home.

Take a look also at the bench built around the stone.

SMILES :)

Saturday 22 June 2013

PULPIT ROCK.

Here it is,  - 604 m. over the fjord.

Friday 21 June 2013

Not that much further to go to reach PULPIT ROCK.

Thursday 20 June 2013

Heading further up....

Wednesday 19 June 2013

Walking uphill gave some nice views.

Tuesday 18 June 2013

The trail going up to Pulpit Rock is well maintained, and the mountain is one of Norways most visited attractions.
Even sherpas from Nepal have been working on the route.

Remember to use good walking shoes, bring food and drinks as well as a jumper/raincoat in your rucksack.

We met this couple from the Netherlands, who were happy about their trip with their camper as well as being able to bring their dog with them.

The trip takes about 2 hours each way.

Monday 17 June 2013

After the ferry trip we drove to an area a bit up hill from Jørpeland, and parked the car next to this beautiful building. It is the Pulpit Rock Mountain Lodge. I could not resist taking a look inside.
It was designed by architects from Helen & Hard, who have created several unique and interesting buildings.

Take a look at their website http://www.hha.no

Sunday 16 June 2013

You are welcome to follow a trip that I made today.
A trip that started with taking the ferry over the fjord to Tau.

Always nice to see houses etc. from the boat.

And I met a nice couple from China, New York or should I say London, where they are living now.
He is a professional pianist. Check out http://www.ernestso.com
Perhaps he will be back and playing at the new concert hall here?
Nice couple, and I was so pleased to hear beautiful things about "my" country from someone who has seen, and been to, so many places. Perhaps I take things for granted here..... Perhaps I should listen more to what tourists say.

Utstein Kloster

UTSTEIN KLOSTER,- the Abbey was built around 1260 and had Augustine monks there before the Reformation.

Today it is a museum, a popular place to get married and a place used for concerts as well as conferences.

Friday 14 June 2013

THE BRIDE TO BE, Kathrine, was at the airport today with her sister and a couple of good friends.
They were all going to Oslo!
I guess she will have a weekend to remember.

She will get married in Klepp, a place south of Stavanger, later this summer!

Best wishes for the weekend and the BIG wedding day!!

Thursday 13 June 2013

The bears were out tonight !!
Thanks to Kari who rang and told me, I got a glimpse of them before they left Stavanger Museum.

Wednesday 12 June 2013

If you are in Stavanger, you can go and see the blooning of the ornamental tree, Davidia Involucrata, at the Botanical Garden.

It looks a bit like handkerchiefs or birds flying in the wind.
It came to Europe from China back in 1904.

Tuesday 11 June 2013

It is quite special walking around the Abbey.

It also brought back some memories of a few concerts I have been to here at Utstein Kloster.

Monday 10 June 2013

Utstein Abbey.
(More images to follow.)

Sunday 9 June 2013

These sporty young Polish guys had been to Kjerag, and were planning to go up to the Pulpit Rock.
Well done  Albert, Tomasz and Adam from Skarzysko Kamienna, who I met at Mosvangen Camping.

Saturday 8 June 2013

Stavanger seen from Rennesøy, an island about 30 min.drive from the city centre in Stavanger. Rennesøy is also another neighboring council.

The tower at the back is Ullandhaug.

Friday 7 June 2013

On my walk before lunch today I saw some people having fun!!
It was a group of people working for the council at EMbo, (an institution for teenage refugees), who were out on a team building session. They were in a hurry, and had several other tasks to do around the lake Mosvannet.
I hope you won!!

Thursday 6 June 2013

I visited a churchyard and saw this splash of pink, - and thought it was unusual and very pretty.

Wednesday 5 June 2013

This evening I saw some people working on cleaning a building, that will then be painted by some enthusiastic young people who belong to a church called IMI.

If you read Norwegian, you can read about it at http://www.godhet.no

Directly translated Godhet means Goodness, and it is work done with Love.

Once a year, for 5 days, they help people with painting, gardening, car washes as well as all sorts of different jobs that some people who need assistance, ask for help to do.

They told me that this is happening in 6 different towns around in Norway.

People volunteer to help from 17:00-21:00, and they do this for free.

I have read about it in the newspapers, but I have never seen it happening.

This is a week of GODHET, (also printed on their T-shirts.)

I think that both those who did the work, and the people who asked for help, were all very happy.

Seriously a brilliant idea, and I have to say on a rainy evening, I was impressed about the work and the effort that they showed.

Tuesday 4 June 2013

Next to the Canning Museum in Old Stavanger, you
can visit (for free) a very interesting house.
It is a house where people have been living for generations. A house that now is a museum and shows a working class home, decorated with furniture and bits and pieces that were common back in the 1950's and 1960's.
This is one of the bedrooms, that is very close to the narrow roads between the houses.
A couple from the cruise ship that I spoke to, said that the kitchen upstairs was very similar to the ones that they had when they were children, and they took so many pictures that there will be plenty of images to show friends and family back in England.
Anyway, the place also has a nice cafe, and you can choose to sit in the old living room or outside in the garden.

Monday 3 June 2013

Of course I used the opportunity yesterday to take a look at Gallery Junin in Old Stavanger.
And I bought the glass thing with the flowers, that you can see at the front.

Sunday 2 June 2013

It is less than 100 days left before we have a big election going on.
Some hope for a new conservative government, some hope that our current PM will continue.
These young girls were out to giving away roses as well as info. about the labour party.

It was a busy day in OLD STAVANGER today. Shops and galleries were open and there were lots of British cruise ship tourists out and about taking a look around before heading back to the ship and a journey further north to Flåm.

Saturday 1 June 2013

The Beauty of Decay is what I found one day when I used my camera in a very old house in the centre of Stavanger.
The peeling wallpaper layers still had some strong colors and formed quite an interesting mixture of patterns.
So why do I choose to share this with you today? The answer is simple, people from all over the world have put up images on the theme "The Beauty of Decay".
You can see the other images for this theme at http://cdpbthemeday.blogspot.com.au
