The well known Serbian performance artist Marina Abramovic is now represented at the Contemporary Art Projects at the BGE.

A unique artist
with unique portraits.

The gallery has a very nice architecture and is situated next to the Catholic Church.
It looked like it was a popular place to visit on a Sunday.
Nice to meet people who are eager to tell about the art and the artist too.

KUNSTGALLERIET

Tomorrow is the big opening day for the new exhibition "Spina", at Kunstgalleriet in Madlaveien.
The artist Magne Furuholmen will be there at the opening at 13.00

It will run until December 10th.

A trip to Hå ?

If you are in the area and are thinking of a Sunday trip, why not head south to Hå Gamle Prestegård.
The artist Ingrid Aarset has an amazing exhibition with laser cut art. It is fascinating and beautiful.
I bought the little book/leaflet where she has an interesting article "About the power of enthusiasm." and about developing patterns and ornamentation....
Well worth reading, and yes, I look for patterns in most things after my visit there:)

Terry Nilssen-Love was born in England, but has been living in Norway since 1974.
His art has been seen in many art galleries and he has also worked at the art school here in Stavanger.

New in town.

I suddenly found myself sitting next to a talented young Greek woman, who spoke excellent English and had been studying in London.

She had a book filled with drawings and ideas, and had been living in Norway for a month with her Norwegian boyfriend.

I 'm sure she will continue to do very well with the fashion and design business she has started.

Find inspiring people and a workplace where you can use your many talents.

A creative artist!

TODAY I saw this man who stood out in the cold wind and had all this beautiful artistic work to sell.
Perhaps I have seen him and his work outside the Culture House before?

There are less and less people at the market these days who are selling vegetables, flowers and art.
Our city runs the risk of loosing these hard working people!
Sad to see how empty the city looks on a cold Friday, at lunch time.

Picaresque.

This is the artist Guy Allott who explains the work of several UK artists, including himself, who are exhibiting work as part of the exhibition "Picaresque" at Hå Gamle Prestegård.

It amazes me to listen to what artists can come up with regarding meaning and thoughts.

Sometimes it is a little like "The Emperors new clothes."
(Sorry, if I offend someone here, that is not the meaning.)

Anyway, this is a place that I have seen so much I like, and sometimes too much of things I dislike.

ONS

I am not good at technical things.
Walking around the ONS is like entering another world.
I get impressed about all the things that I don´t know much about.

But there are 3 things I have noticed that I will remember, which have nothing to do with the business....

1) The number of women who are walking around on really high heals!

2) Stand number 544. My favourite stand. The most friendly people and WOW what a creative presentation! Aesthetically pleasing and so informative about the area up in the high north, arctic area.
The film they are showing is just SUPERB!

3) The company "Talisman Energy" have used a fantastic illustrator artist, George Butler, who is doing the most amazing work I have seen for a long time.

The most creative things I have seen today, were at Hå Gamle Prestegård. (An art and culture centre south of Stavanger.)

This is the artist TOBIAS STERNBERG (from Sweden, living in Berlin.)
I liked his collages and the rest of his work was quite unique, containing some real surprises!

If you are in the Stavanger region the next two months, you have the chance to see it.

Made in Holland.

"Made in Holland" is an exhibition by two artists that is now being shown at Bryne (Mill), south of Stavanger.
This is the Dutch artist Yvette Lardinois showing her work, landscape painted on plates.

Yes, we have galleries in Stavanger, but like many people do, it is always nice to combine a trip out of town with a cultural event. And nice to hear the artist telling us about the process as well as the idea behind the work.

And the winner is.....

Well done to class 2A at Buøy school, who won this years prize at Stavanger Aftenblad!
(Our main newspaper.)

Of course I used the opportunity yesterday to take a look at Gallery Junin in Old Stavanger.
And I bought the glass thing with the flowers, that you can see at the front.

In Gamle Stavanger, as we call the old part of Stavanger, there are places to buy arts and crafts as well as seeing the artist at work.
This is an image taken last summer, and I will have to add the artists name later.

Like it or not, here is one that was put up outside the old school "Solvang". Later 40 million kroner was spent on making the school in to a kindergarden.

Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to see and hear the artist when "Kunstgalleriet" opened her 3rd exhibition last week, but today I had the chance to take a look around.....
