Is this NUART ?

Walking through one of the small narrow roads between the Culture House and Østervåg I noticed this little girl....

Airport Emergency Services

They are always ready to roll at a moments notice in any emergency.
The boots and trousers are ready on the mat (as you see in the photo), and they train hard to reach any location at the airport in less than 120 seconds.

Up in the control tower.

I visited the control tower today.

It was not the first time, but it still amazes me the fact that there are people who day and night follow the weather, all the traffic to and from all the oil rigs (helicopters), as well as more than 62 direct destinations and passing traffic......
The airport is undergoing a lot of work, and there will be plenty of new facilities coming in the future.
As you can see the weather was very different from yesterday.

Back in business again.

It is good to see that SJOKOLADEPIKEN (the Chocolategirl) is back in business again.

(To the left, Zara the fashion store is being built.)

PUSSY WILLOWS

I googled the name GÅSUNGER, and found the name PUSSY WILLOWS.
What was life like before GOOGLE?

As you can see, this is a sign of spring.

Colours on a rainy day.

Sometimes when the days are grey and rainy, it is nice to take an "abstract" rain shot, just to remind myself that the rain can also be positive and create beauty out of the simplest things around us.

A wooden bench.

A bench seen at the Abbey, Utstein Kloster.

Advertising ?

Last weekend at the antique market I saw these old posters for sale, and I was wondering where they will end up. In a pub in Stavanger?
Well, they might have to be covered up.... Not a thing you will see any other place on the planet I guess.

Take a look at the link here and the images:

A grey but happy day!

Broken ice.

Broken ice on the water.

Monday 16 February 2015

Sola beach.

It was LOVELY out on the beach yesterday!

Sunday 15 February 2015

What to do today?

There are probably lots of people who are heading to the the last day at the antique market at Ålgård/Figgjo area today.

(See Friday's posting as well as today's)

We are heading for the beach.... for a long walk.
It is cold but sunny today!

The schools winter holiday starts on Monday, and many families have already left the town for skiing holidays or a week abroad.

Saturday 14 February 2015

Happy Valentine!

"Tempt your loved one with lovely strawberries on Valentine`s day."

A message seen at the food shop today.

Friday 13 February 2015

Antique market.

Today was the big opening day for the annual antique weekend market at Ålgård / Figgjo.
It was interesting to see, expensive to get in.... and lots of things priced way over the top.
But seriously, there were some nice items, like this Dutch bowl at the front. Priced at 1100 N.kr.

Thursday 12 February 2015

No Indian lunch today.

Another Indian restaurant in trouble, or perhaps redecorating?
Time will show.

Wednesday 11 February 2015

Waiting for the children.

These "dogs" are waiting for the children to come and play with them in the playroom at Hå Gamle Prestegård.

Tuesday 10 February 2015

FIGGJO.

FIGGJO is a well known business in our region.
For years they have produced beautiful porcelain that I have actually been drinking and eating from in places such as Dubai and London..... as well as here in Norway.

Their old products are now collectable by young people who find items either at their parents or grandparents, or perhaps at markets,  ebay,  or other places.
Take a look here for colourful items: figgjo

Several cruise ships and well as large & small companies use their products..... so take a look from time to time under cups and plates, you never know where you will find it.

Monday 9 February 2015

Big trees.

I love the big trees in Stavanger.
Let us hope that they will still be here for many more years to come.

Sunday 8 February 2015

More art...

I now this is art, made by an artist who I have to add the name of later.
Why did I think of Norwegian "RUSS" when I saw it?
What does it tell you?

Seen at the same place as yesterdays posting.

Saturday 7 February 2015

Not for sale.

Look at what I saw at "Hå Gamle Prestegård", an art and culture centre south of Stavanger.

The top silver bit, is what is part of our National Costume. The mixture of new and old is great, and the price is unknown, since "the bag" was not for sale. Made by Marianne Moe.

I am off to a theatre play tonight.

Enjoy your evening too.

Friday 6 February 2015

Go home.... ??

Most office people work from 08:00 until 16:00, so NOW it is time to GO HOME and enjoy the weekend!
This is a building from the 1970´s. And what I call typical for that period.....
Best thing is probably that it is very central and easy to reach by public transport.

Are you working at the weekends?
Here we have a huge debate as to whether or not the shops should be open on Sundays.
Well, we have to "try" trust the politicians that we voted for, and wait to see if there will be changes or not.

Thursday 5 February 2015

Under the roof at Arkaden.

Looking up...... inside the shopping mall ARKADEN.

Wednesday 4 February 2015

A beauty at the roundabout.

Walking through town today made me realise that some car owners just LOVE their old cars.
We have had a cold, bright and sunny day! Wonderful!

Tuesday 3 February 2015

Hotel window.

An unusual window design for Stavanger.

Monday 2 February 2015

Chickery Chick or Cock A Doodle Doo?

They live a happy life in the kindergarden !

Kykkeli Ky  they will say in Norwegian.

I don`t know what they would say in another language.
Perhaps Chickery Chick or Cock A Doodle Doo?

Sunday 1 February 2015

What would I miss?

What would I miss about Stavanger?

The answer is the places where it is possible to go for walks.
The open spaces, the small lakes and paths around the woodland areas.
Also the coastline, the beaches, the north sea and the fjords.
No matter what the season, or, what the weather is like, there are places like this
around the lake Mosvannet where you can walk and enjoy the beauty....

If you want to see what other people will miss about their cities. take a look HERE.
