Christmas market.

There were lots of people in and out of shops at Old town Stavanger today.
It was the annual Christmas market.

Some really nice handmade stuff, and some really overpriced mass-produced items from far far away.

Saturday 29 November 2014

Vippas at M44.

Say HELLO to Vippas, in the shopping mall M44 at Bryne, south of Stavanger.
He ( or she? ) made people SMILE, walking around the whole mall, and gave also lots of hugs plus photo opportunities for kids to have their photo taken with him (or her).

Friday 28 November 2014

BLACK FRIDAY!

BLACK FRIDAY has arrived here in Stavanger too.
In this shop all BLACK clothes were 20% off.

Well, some places there was more action..
Take a look at this: https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=no&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.aftenbladet.no%2Ftv%2FSe-kaoset-under-Black-Friday-i-Norge-3574171.html

Herb Garden at Ullandhaug.

The Blue House.

The Blue House in Paradis.

(Paradis, is the name of an area in Stavanger.)

Tuesday 25 November 2014

Gate 17.

The "X-mas street" at the airport opened today.
Looks pretty AND cosy!

Monday 24 November 2014

Lots of light coming in.

Perhaps a house to add on my "top 10" list?

Sunday 23 November 2014

Artistic work by school kids.

This is some of the artistic work I saw at the Rudolf Steiner school which I visited yesterday.
I seriously think that individuality and creativity is more important there than many other kindergartens and schools I have been to. There is too much duplication, endless copies of the same things, made at the ordinary schools.

I might be wrong about this.

There are some teachers around who are brilliant at giving their pupils lots of encouragement and input, and some teachers who have lost their creativity, and can kill children's talents forever.

Saturday 22 November 2014

D.I.Y. BREAD.

Today was the annual Christmas Market at the Rudolf Steiner School.
I had "gløgg" (Mulled wine) and "pinnebrød" (Bread cooked on a twig.)
Here you see the progress, some bread dough cooking on the twig, and one finished bread.
Tasted good!

A view from the Botanical Garden.

A view from the Botanical Garden at Ullandhaug.
Very close to the University area.

Student HOME

Another image from yesterdays walk.
This is where many students have been lucky to get reasonably priced accommodation.
It is a part of the campus area, also fairly close to the city center, by car or bus.

Wednesday 19 November 2014

Student housing.

Interesting staircase.

Tuesday 18 November 2014

Afternoon sky.

Afternoon.
Is this sky a good sign of the weather for the next few days?

Monday 17 November 2014

Terje Viken, the rowing club.

The colourful rowing club.

Sunday 16 November 2014

Life at the airport.

Sunday afternoon at the airport.

Saturday 15 November 2014

X-MAS is on it´s way.

Seriously, it is not even December yet, but the shops are full of Christmas decorations!
I walked through a shopping mall after work today, and I must have seen THOUSANDS of Father Christmas figures, some for sale and some put out as decoration.

Friday 14 November 2014

Milk.

Just to give you an idea about what you can look for if you want to buy MILK here in the south west part of Norway.

It includes a picture of one of the cows, and a story about the farmers and their work.

(I will have to take a look when I go abroad. It probably looks different from what we have.)

Thursday 13 November 2014

Celebrate!

Even on rainy cold days there are
opportunities to celebrate!:)
Have a good day!

Wednesday 12 November 2014

Quiet in town.

Sometimes it looks empty and too quiet in town.

Tuesday 11 November 2014

What a beautiful day!

What a beautiful day we have today!
Sunny, crisp and +11C.

I saw this sporty man out jogging around the beach area at Sola around lunchtime today.
The coastline and the beaches are my absolute favourite areas here where I am living.
And it is only 25 minutes away from the city centre by car.

Monday 10 November 2014

MOVEMBER

MOVEMBER is here.

Take a look at the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Movember

Today I saw this note in a shopping window.

"If you are doing the MOVEMBER thing, you will get 10% of the price."

Creative idea!

Do you have Movember where you are?
If so, have you seen similar deals?

Sunday 9 November 2014

It is getting colder.

It is getting colder, and even the airport is prepared.

Saturday 8 November 2014

Coffee place.

A fairly new place for coffee and a snack?
The desk where they took the orders and later shouted out the name of the customers, looked nice.
No smiles, little service.
Coffee in a paper cup, sandwich rapped in paper, but tasted ok.
If you think the wall looks interesting, -look twice! It is just wallpaper. No books, magazines and newspapers around....

If I should write a review what rating should I give?
I am not really sure about this one.

Friday 7 November 2014

A creative artist!

TODAY I saw this man who stood out in the cold wind and had all this beautiful artistic work to sell.
Perhaps I have seen him and his work outside the Culture House before?

There are less and less people at the market these days who are selling vegetables, flowers and art.
Our city runs the risk of loosing these hard working people!
Sad to see how empty the city looks on a cold Friday, at lunch time.

Anyway, I hope you will keep warm, and have a nice weekend!!

Thursday 6 November 2014

Daylight.

Rooms with a view and plenty of daylight!

Wednesday 5 November 2014

Roberta the robot.

This afternoon/evening I was invited to Stavanger University to attend an event that was held together with "Girl Geek Dinner".
Interesting and informative speeches were given both by people from the University, and businesses in and around Stavanger.
When ROBERTA, the little NAO robot, came on stage, the mobile phones were quick to come out.

Amazing what can be created in the field of technology!

The whole event was for women by women.
(Ok, one man was there... perhaps he was the secretary?)

Tuesday 4 November 2014

A splash of colour.

Always nice to see a splash of colour on a grey day.

Monday 3 November 2014

Stavanger Katedralskole.

Pupils seen outside the Stavanger Katedralskole.
They are aged between 16 and 19.
The school has a good reputation, and is situated just next to the Cathedral and the city park.

Sunday 2 November 2014

Heading south of Stavanger

Another rainy day.

I have been visiting an art centre at HÅ today.
There were some really nice and interesting things to see.
Here represented by Patrik Entian and Harald Fenn´s work.

The art/culture centre also had a family day with Halloween fun for the kids!

Saturday 1 November 2014

ØSTERVÅG

It has been an unusually warm day (+17C ), lots of rain and just grey.

What is better than just to go inside a nice place for a girly lunch?
The table was booked, the company and the food etc. were excellent!
A nice loooooong lunch!
Strongly recommended !
