Free drinks in town.

Well, there were free DRINKS for dogs who walked up or down Kirkegaten.

Supply Vessel.

There are quite a few Supply vessels that come in to our harbours.
This is the Bourbon Rainbow (front).

Friday 28 August 2015

Looking down.

Walking through Østervåg, I noticed these two inscriptions....
It tells some dreadful facts about what happened to two of the Jewish people living in our city during the war. They were sent to Auschwitz. The small Jewish community in Stavanger did not survive the war!

Looking up.

Sometimes I walk around in my own little world and don't notice much, but this time I suddenly spotted this window in a beautiful building, and whoever is working or living there has got a nice view down to the harbour. Probably a keen boat lover.

Wednesday 26 August 2015

At the doorway.

Seen at the top of some stairs.

Tuesday 25 August 2015

Street art.

I think this is quite a cute street art from Nuart.

Monday 24 August 2015

Flats

There are plenty of flats along the fjord and within easy walking distance to the city centre.
Some people (with money) buy a flat (or several flats) for renting out, and can have a good and smart investment this way.

Sunday 23 August 2015

A corner shop.

Still possible to buy food etc. on a Sunday.
But mainly from small shops, like this little corner shop at Storhaug.
There is a huge discussion going on as to whether shops should be open on Sundays or not...

Saturday 22 August 2015

Cat.

A nice cat is the model in this street art.

Friday 21 August 2015

Out on the fjord.

The ferries are still important.
And the fjords are popular for smaller boats too.

Thursday 20 August 2015

Connected.

When there are cruise ships at the harbour, I very often see groups of people who are happy to have found FREE WIFI and are busy sending messages to friends and families.

I guess if you are working on a cruise liner you can't go home that often, so it is good to be connected again.

Just a snap shot....

I know this is just a snap shot.
But WOW.... what an unusual plane I saw taxiing away outside the window at the airport.
Quite unusual to see at OUR airport.
Later I read about it in the newspaper, and I just have to share it with you, so take a look here: https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=no&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.aftenbladet.no%2Fnyheter%2Flokalt%2Fstavanger%2FSe-innsiden-av-verdens-storste-privatfly-3752091.html&edit-text=

Ann G

She is a beauty! Look at the style and the lines.
It is not every day we can see a super yacht like this here in Stavanger.

Someone famous.

Stephen Hawking "is" in town.
Artist is DOT DOT DOT.

Sunday 16 August 2015

Election time.

We have local elections coming up soon.
Arbeiderpartiet (Labour  party) spends millions on red roses to give away.
My husband came back with one for me after shopping.
He first pretended it was from him.

I don`t know if it makes much difference to how people vote, but they can try :)

Saturday 15 August 2015

Nuart.

Icy and Sot from Iran, are based in NYC, but came over to Stavanger for the Nuart Festival.
They have made this b/w mural on hand cut boards. The result is impressive and huge.

Friday 14 August 2015

Verven

Verven is an area with some offices and plenty of modern flats.
They have an excellent view of boats out on the fjord.
It is really nice walking here and lots to see, like the old wooden boat "Anna af Sand" an old sailing vessel, kept in good condition and still in use.

Thursday 13 August 2015

Pancakes at the European Food Market.

Soon ready....
I hope the customers enjoyed their crepes :)

Wednesday 12 August 2015

European Food Market.

The European Food Market has arrived in town.
Quite a range of food. Here they sold Dutch cheeses.

Tuesday 11 August 2015

Blue reflection.

No, it is not blue blood.
Just what I saw at the parking area very early this morning.
Reflection in the water.

We had really heavy showers last night and this morning.
Some roads were so bad that people and equipment were out working hard to pump the water away.

Sunny now and +17C

Monday 10 August 2015

MICHAEL KORS have opened their doors....

"Finally", some people say; Stavanger has a Michael Kors store filled with expensive bags etc.!
They opened their doors last week....
The question is: Will they find the right customers in our town?

Do you have a
favourite make when it comes to bags & watches?

Sunday 9 August 2015

Church on Sunday?

I am not sure what type of church / church community house this is, but when I passed I got the feeling that it might be more international inside here, than in an ordinary Norwegian church.

I am not a church goer, but still a member of the Norwegian Church like most people are here in Norway.

The number of church goers has gone down. There are probably lots of reasons for that.

I read in a report that Greeks are the people in Europe who go most frequently to church.

Saturday 8 August 2015

LUKASZ and JOANNA.

Normally I don't stop for hitchhikers. But yesterday afternoon my husband and I said, "Why not" and stopped for this couple who had a big sign saying SOLA AIRPORT.

This is Lukasz and his wife Joanna. A sporty couple from Wroclaw in Poland.
They wanted to stay their last night in Norway in a tent near to the beach (and the airport.)

They had not only been to Prekestolen /Pulpit Rock, but also to Kjerag!
Sporty people!

Today they are heading home by plane. They told me that back home there were days with temperatures up to +40 C.
That is HOT!
Nice meeting you! Hope you will have a nice day here today,
and a safe journey back home!

Friday 7 August 2015

Ordnung muss sein.

Nothing wrong with German tourists.

I just find it amusing that they often seems to have such huge campers that are always so very clean, as if they have come straight from the showroom.

I have started to count the days until my little holiday, a week in the southern part of Europe, where the SUN is shining for more than a few hours a week, and the temperature is guarantied higher then +15 C .....

Where are you dreaming of / going on holiday ?

Thursday 6 August 2015

Moody image.

Perhaps a bit moody this image?
I just felt for it today....

Wednesday 5 August 2015

Todays model.

Lucky owner.

Lucky owner.

Monday 3 August 2015

LOUISE and her dog.

Louise (from Århus in Denmark) is relaxing on the bench.
She works as a nurse at the hospital here in Stavanger, and had been on a night shift.
Finally we got a warmish day, and I think her cute little dog Mollie also enjoyed a trip out in the sunshine.

Sunday 2 August 2015

SIGRID en BERNT

I just met this couple Sigrid and Bernt from the Netherlands.

Well, Bernt's father came from Norway.
So my question was of course: Do you speak Norwegian?
No, he said.... only "stiv kuling" (Gale, in English :-)
They have had plenty of wind, and last night, thunder and lightening and plenty of rain too.
Today turned out to be ok with sunshine and temperatures up to +18 C
They had visited Flor & Fjære and were impressed about that!
Food prices (and going out for a meal) was extremely expensive they said.
I think they are not alone with that experience.

The lucky couple will be on holiday until the end of September.

I wished them a good and safe journey.
Next stop might be Oslo?
Have fun!

Summer out in the garden.

Summer out in the garden.
Plenty of rain and +14C
