A sign of CeLEbRatiOn in town today....

Wednesday 30 May 2012

It is the time of year, when thousands of people are out on strike again.
The unions are saying that they are prepared to strike for a very long time if necessary.

Schools have closed, prisoners have been asked to go back into society again, because the staff are on strike. Homes for elderly people have less people working. Kids are going to their parents workplaces or are staying with grandparents, if they are not working or on strike... Some airports are on strike and the pilots will not receive proper weather forecasts........
Public offices are also involved.

Strange in a way.
Have you ever been effected by a strike?

Tuesday 29 May 2012

I have never had time to take a proper look at this area before, just outside the terminal building, but it was a nice place to sit and enjoy an ice cream in the sunshine.....

Monday 28 May 2012

This is a "Norwegian" plane, who have photos of several more or less famous people who are all dead, that now have been put up on their planes. ( With permission from relatives.)

This is Aril Edvardsen, a Evangelic preacher and missionary who died back in 2008.
If you see a "Norwegian" plane, you might get a glimpse of Thor Heyerdahl, Sonja Henie, Fridtjof Nansen etc.

Sunday 27 May 2012

Morning has broken....
SUNSHINE today too:)

Saturday 26 May 2012

Have a nice weekend wherever you are!:)
For most people this is a long weekend.

Friday 25 May 2012

Another sign of SUMMER....
Is it the same for you??

Thursday 24 May 2012

Some flowers and me, or at least part of me in the shadow.
Sunny day, but not as hot as the last two days.

Wednesday 23 May 2012

Splash!:)

Another nice warm summer day in Stavanger.....
Love it!

Tuesday 22 May 2012

STREETLIFE.

Not that many days ago.
Today we have had +27C.
Fantastic!

Monday 21 May 2012

Neset Zuhel in action!
He is busy cleaning / repainting walls all over the Stavanger area.
He told me that he used only 1000 liter paint AND chemicals, a bit less than the year before.
Just like me he photograph the tagging, and I guess he will manage to see that some walls have been done by the same person.
I guess our city would have looked very different, without the work he do.
Thanks Neset!

Sunday 20 May 2012

Details from what used to be "Telegrafen", perhaps it is translated to "The Telegraph Office"?
Times have changed:)

Saturday 19 May 2012

Why have I never noticed this before?
(Because I never looked up....... )
From my favorite cafe.

Friday 18 May 2012

Look at the little house....
Looks even smaller when big cruise ships are here:)

Thursday 17 May 2012

It is our NATIONAL DAY, and most shops have decorated with red, blue and white.
(The colors of our flag.)
Some people dress up in their smartest outfit. But these dresses have to be used inside.
Rain most places in Norway today.

(Shop: Agape.)

GRATULERER med dagen, også til dere norske i utlandet.

(Please click on the "17.mai" under the text, after labels.)

Wednesday 16 May 2012

The biggest cruise ship I have seen so far this year, is VENTURA.
It was here yesterday from 07.30 to 18.00. It was a day with a bit of sunshine,- and too much rain.
There is a lot of security around these ships I was told. Also fantastic opportunities to go to different restaurants, shows etc.

Take a look at: http://www.pocruises.com/Cruise-Ships/Ventura/Ship-Overview/

Tuesday 15 May 2012

British tourists in town.
They were from Yorkshire and Bristol.
Hope you will have sunshine and some nice days here in different places in Norway.

Monday 14 May 2012

The FACE in the window.

(Actually, it was a pillow.)
A new designer shop opened last week.
(Hillevågsveien 101.)
Easy to spot with the bright red wall!

Sunday 13 May 2012

A view out, - on a sunny day.
We have rain today, and more to come.

Saturday 12 May 2012

The manager Karl Erik Pallesen who here is photographed with one of his staff , Heidi Bertelsen, sounded enthusiastic, and if the people working at the fish marked will continue that way, give good service and advices this will be a popular place.
It is open from 09-21, so when you are in town, test out the food.

Friday 11 May 2012

FISKETORGET, our fish market has changed, and I had a quick look one morning.
Looks promising. Not so big, but looks like they have a huge variety for sale, and even a restaurant next door. This is a place also many tourist will like. Situated right at the harbor and city centre.

Thursday 10 May 2012

Green glass, as I saw it in yesterdays image of the sculpture, in front of the singing group.
Again, the artist is FRANK Ã…SNES.

Wednesday 9 May 2012

The artist had more artistic talents. Here he is, number two from the right, together with John Øyvind Eggesbø, Erling Berge, Einar Pettersen and Ole Karsten Sundlisæter, I can't tell you who is who.
Anyway they gave a concert with Gregorian songs.
That was a great little concert!

Tuesday 8 May 2012

This is how I (also) saw yesterdays art.
This time from above, via my camera.
The artist is FRANK Ã…SNES. ( http://www.frank-aasnes.no)
I really enjoyed looking at his sculptures, and the way the light coming in to the little chapel and how it filled the room.

Monday 7 May 2012

What do YOU see here?
There is no right or wrong.
Tomorrow I will tell you who the artist is.

Sunday 6 May 2012

Some of the "people" from yesterdays posting.

Saturday 5 May 2012

Open port?
A very special boat had turned up at the harbor. After a closer look I realized it was not what I thought, it was actually a Danish art installation, to make us become more aware of UN's aim for 2015.
The "refugees' ship" is here tomorrow too.

(Cold windy day, and even a bit of SNOW this afternoon and evening.)

Friday 4 May 2012

HaPPy WeeKeNd!

Sunny,- windy and COLD in Stavanger this evening.

Thursday 3 May 2012

A quiet little road, just a short walk from the city centre.

Wednesday 2 May 2012

Gamlingen.

Yes, it is possible to take an outdoor swim all year round at "Gamlingen".
Some people get addicted to the use of this place, and some even turn up really early in the morning, before going to work.
One of the lifeguards told me it is very popular, and half of the people using it are not Norwegian.
Anette Hellberg, is an active swimmer (some time back, according to her), who was sporty to say yes to be todays model! Thanks sporty woman!

Tuesday 1 May 2012

It has been a lovely warm and sunny Mayday. Most people have had the day off from work.
Some political activities have happened several places around the city, and a huge number of motor cyclists have been out on the road. The motorcycle "parade" is a big event with people watching from the bridges over the motorway. While this "parade" is heading into the town center, the motorway is partly closed to other traffic. So, there I was stuck in a queue instead of photographing it... so next year... :)
Many people have used today to simply tidy up in the house, garage or garden. Perfect day for it!

Todays photo shows that public places need spring cleaning too:(
