Now, before you start groaning, this is not a continuation of yesterdays theme, although I do admit that there are some similarities here!
This is one more of the statues by Anthoney Gormley, and is close to the Police station, with a view over a churchyard.
Click on the label below for more statues and information.

Stavanger by night....
Last night I was out in town, - and suddenly I saw this guy who had something of a problem to sort out!
I hope that the next time he is out drinking, he might try using the toilet in the bar before he leaves.

Saturday 29 January 2011

One of the things i have done today, was to go to the opening of a new exhibition at Hå Gamle Prestegård (http://www.hagamleprestegard.no). It was an installation called "TAKE AWAY" by Brit Dyrnes and Arild Juul.
Take a look at the labels for more info/pictures from Hå Gamle Prestegård.

Friday 28 January 2011

This is Kristine with her little cute dog, Bambi.
And Kjersti with her big Berner Sennen dog, Taiko, who had just enjoyed a swim/splash out in mud and water..... They had been to an area where the dogs could run without wearing a lead.
Is it true that dogs are humans best friends? I think so in many ways!:)
Have a nice weekend, everyone!

Thursday 27 January 2011

Yet more graffiti, perhaps "silly" would have been more correct ?

Wednesday 26 January 2011

2011 is a year for " Architecture" to be celebrated.
Please take a look at this link: http://www.0047.org/projects
Brisk cold walk today. And I saw these modern new houses.....
Click on the label/houses to see other buildings.

Tuesday 25 January 2011

A few days back I was out walking and noticed some activity at the harbor next to "Skretting".
( 10 minutes by car from the city centre.) It was a ship named Imi, from Misje Bulk AS that was there with fish flour from Egersund. Well, how do I know that? I sent an e-mail and got a quick answer back from the Maritime Inspector at the company, Mr. Børge Misje:)

Monday 24 January 2011

Postman Einar at work.
We have post delivered once a day, 6 days a week.
In the centre we have the main post office, most other places we now have to visit a petrol station, a shop, kiosk or even video shop to post parcels and pick up packages etc.
Big changes over the last few years as the smaller post offices have been closed down.

Sunday 23 January 2011

I keep walking and I keep looking....
This is from an area close to the Rudolf Steiner school, that I showed you a photo of a few days back.

Saturday 22 January 2011

This is a photo of a local train on it`s way to Stavanger.
(From Egersund, further south there are 18 stops)
But from here the train has only 5 minutes left before arriving.
Stavanger to Oslo by train is also possible, and that takes approximately 8 hours.
As you see, some of the distance is along Gandsfjord.

Friday 21 January 2011

Fog - frost - and a bit of sunshine!:)
Have a nice weekend!

Thursday 20 January 2011

This is just a quick snapshot....but it shows that we have demonstrations here in Stavanger too.
This was a protest against returning a man back to Turkey. He claims he is in danger in his homeland and had been living here for years.
Norway is a welfare state, and of course we should help when UN send refuges, but there are also far too many who have been living here illegally for years!
The media are following the cases where friends/supporters invite TV/newspapers and famous artists, but other cases get little coverage.
Tonights artist was the man in yellow trousers, on the very left with the guitar, Ole Paus, who had come over from Oslo.
I feel sorry for many refuges, but then again, we rarely understand all of the truth and the circumstances behind these stories. I do believe though, that in many cases, those who need help the most, are often those who are in the weakest position to actually get that help.

Wednesday 19 January 2011

Do you see these two young lads crossing over the ice on the water?
One of them ended up with one leg in the cold water....
They probably forgot to read the signs along the path.
I think he got a bit embarrassed, and he was not old enough to be photographed without his parents permission ..... so I dropped the action shot, and therefore show you "the peace and harmony" just BEFORE the accident.

Tuesday 18 January 2011

Another building.
This time from the Rudolf Steiner school.
I think this is the building that the youngest kids use.
(Perhaps a kindergarden?)
Nice shapes, and quite different from most other schools.

Monday 17 January 2011

My posting number 601, - non - stop!:)

I passed this house today, and stopped to look at the decorated wall.
Perhaps there are some creative people living here, who also like to collect plates when they are on holidays? Some plates are perhaps from Greece or Spain?
Enlarge the photo.

Sunday 16 January 2011

"Deli de Luca" is a fairly new place in Stavanger for coffees and plenty of "comfort eating food".
Melissa, is the young woman you see here with some of the Yummy food.
I bought a coffee and a newspaper, -but will be back and try something sweet another time.

Saturday 15 January 2011

Todays petrol and diesel prices.....
Norwegian kroner that is.
Petrol is becoming more and more expensive quite quickly.

Friday 14 January 2011

This is a photograph of some art.
What do you see?
Just one thing "JEG" is the same as "I" in English.
I will tell you more about it tomorrow.
- Have a nice weekend-
PS. Thanks for all the comments on yesterdays cooool dog.
I will tell him about it, if I see him again.

Thursday 13 January 2011

A cooooooool dog!:)

Wednesday 12 January 2011

Obviously THE place for the birds to have lunch.

Tuesday 11 January 2011

It is time to take a good look at the Geopark, a gift from the Norwegian Petroleum Museum and a place for skating, climbing, concerts, and as shown here, Graffiti art.
Most of the politicians have found out that it is time to do "something" with the area.
Will it be knocked down or modernized? Time will show.

Monday 10 January 2011

I have decided to finish off Christmas with an image of a type of Father Christmas who we call
"Fjøsnisse". You can read more about this at http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2003/dec/23/christmas.hildegunnsoldal

Sunday 9 January 2011

From the lobby at the Rica Airport Hotel.
The BIG lamp caught my attention :)

Saturday 8 January 2011

Once or twice every year I can't resist choosing "fish & chips" from the menu, but so far it has never ever been anything quite like the real thing that you get in the UK.

Friday 7 January 2011

This is Patrick P who for several years has been living on one of the islands just outside Stavanger with his Norwegian wife. They had sold their house and were now moving (as far as I understood) to a much warmer place on the other side of the planet......
He was a very talkative and open person who showed me the tattoo that he had done for his wife (and love of Norway).
He was born in the States, but has lived in so may countries, that I seriously don't think I will ever meet anyone as international as him!
Best of luck Patrick!!

Thursday 6 January 2011

It is always the same.....
Before Christmas we have weeks/months where we are bombarded with 100's of recipes about what to make, what to buy and how to decorate....
After Christmas Tv programs, are about healthy living, most magazines are full of good advice on how to lose weight. (Like these magazines offering a diet that will help you lose 3 kilos in one week, or 6 kilos in just 4 weeks! :) On top of that, what we bought in December can now be bought for half price or perhaps even 70% cheaper.
Is it the same in your country?

PS:"Sladder" is the same as gossip.

Wednesday 5 January 2011

Car lights reflected in the rain.
Lots of rain today, and slippery pavements.

Tuesday 4 January 2011

An advert for leaving the ice and snow, and going somewhere nice and warm.
I guess there have been more than just me who has been shivering and dreaming about a holiday.....
Where would you like to go in 2011?

Monday 3 January 2011

Look who I saw tonight.
Father Christmas will probably go on holiday soon.
But first he had a few final things to sort out.....

Sunday 2 January 2011

The SALES are on.

Saturday 1 January 2011

I wish you all the very best for 2011.
