I have told you that Stavanger is quite international.
We even have an international cafe, and on Saturdays you can get food from different countries.
Today it was Japanese food on the menu.
They also had a slideshow with images from Japan and an animated film which we unfortunately did not get to see.
We met Kenji, who is from a place near Tokyo, and was living in the U.S before coming here to Stavanger. He now works for an American oil company. The cute little daughter is named Mio and her mother is from Hiroshima.
It was the first time I visited the cafe.
It is at Nytorget.
Do not forget to bring cash, because they do not take any plastic cards.

RUSS 2013.
I got a hug from the young woman to the left today.
And the young man to the right held a speech in front of a statue at the old marketplace.
It was all filmed by the girl in the middle.
They have had 13 years at school, and they might continue being students for some more years.
Anyway, for those who are following my blog, please click on RUSS under the image, for more info.
They were all from the collage St. Olav, and from the same class.
I wish each one of you, lot`s of FUN when you celebrate with other RUSS.
Unfortunately, I was in a hurry, so if you see this on Facebook, please add your names if you want to.

I guess I could have named this: "Made in Finland".
It is design material from MARIMEKKO, that is very popular and at the mall "Magasin Blaa" you will find a shop selling their products.
I read in a fashion book that it was Jacqueline Kennedy who bought some summer dresses, and just like some Royals or other photographed people these days, started a new trend.

A brilliant idea, turned out to be a great event today!
The Stavanger Council arranged http://www.apengarasje.no
People from Stavanger and the nearby area could add their sale to a list on internet, and put out information about what they wanted to sell from their garages and gardens.
I visited a place where the owner was soon going to move from a house to a flat, so there were all sorts of things for sale.
Here you see Trine, the owners daughter, and some of the items that were for sale.
I guess most were gone not long after I went.

Today I went to the Norwegian Cookbook Museum together with a friend who is a very good cook.
We had a very interesting guided tour, not only to see the new and old cook books, old menus (written in French) from famous old hotels in Christiania (the name used for Oslo long time ago), but also to see the beginning of wine production.
They have already more than 6000 books, with more to come.
They also have a very professional kitchen, a restaurant as well as a auditorium for lectures etc.
The museum is part of the university here in Stavanger, and the university also provides hotel management courses for people who want to work in that branch.
Our guide was Mr. Helge Jørgensen, a gentleman and an Associate Professor, who has many years in the branch, and who for years have been a real enthusiast in getting the museum up to running!
Great to be there!
So which chef is your favorite, or what cookbook is your favorite??

There can`t be many teenage girls left in the country who have not headed for OSLO!
JUSTIN BIEBER will give a concert in our capital TONIGHT, and also the next two evenings.
I had a quick chat with two of the lucky girls.
LINN and MARITA, who both had been looking forward to this for a year!
They looked soooooo happy, and I hope they will have an unforgettable time!
Have FUN and keep WARM!
Many parents had taken time off, to travel and be together with their youngsters.

Just before half past three this morning, the police saw a young couple, both age 23, writing on the mall Magasin Blaa......
Ibsen is a well known Norwegian writer, but now those who wrote his famous words ( in Swedish! ) have had a stop at the police station and I guess will get a fine big enough to remember for a while.

If you search for SOLASPLITTEN you will find many images as well as a price of more than 600 million Norwegian kroner for a road that has been planned for many many years.
It opened in December last year.
The road is only one lane in each direction, but as long as you do not end up driving behind "a man with a hat" (who drives so slow), it can be a really fast route to or from the airport!
A few days back we had a bit of snow, but that melted soon.
Actually, we have not had such a dry month as March for the last 49 years!

For the last few days we have had an ongoing fire in the region close to Stavanger.
A huge area of woods up in the mountains took fire, and it threatened houses as well as holiday cottages.
The fire brigade and lots of other people were involved in the work to put out the fire, and helicopters were also used.
I have google translated something from the newspaper here.
http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.aftenbladet.no%2Fnyheter%2Flokalt%2FOmfanget-kunne-vart-begrenset-3151039.html%23.UVtFYaWUC_E&act=url
Click on the images ( from the news) and you will see more photos.
My photo is taken from the road close to the airport, a very long distance away, but it was easy to see and some said they could smell the fire even in the city of Stavanger.

This months theme day picture, see link HERE, is "Pedestrian crossing".
As you can see, here in Stavanger we are so organized that even the swans follow the pedestrian lines while crossing.
