Ready for Christmas?

This is work in progress.
The huge father Christmas might be put somewhere else?
The place has become some sort of a landmark in Stavanger.
Some people find it tacky, some LOVE it.

Christmas market.

Today was the annual Christmas market in "Old Stavanger".
Some sold handmade products together with friends,
some sold products where the money should go to charity.

No snow.

Here there is no snow but plenty of wind.

A song on the road.

We were just walking by, and the children decided to sing to the dog.

Sørmarka

Sørmarka is a great area to go for walks etc.

This is an image taken from Ullandhaug.

She is busy.

She is one of several women, who are in Norway selling their knitted products.
Quite impressive what she has made.
If you don't have cash it is not a problem, - always a "mini bank" nearby.

Atlantic Hall

Atlantic Hall is part of the Radisson BLU Atlantic hotel, and the hotel is now closed for customers during the renovation work. It will be very different when it opens for business again.

The Atlantic Hall has hosted so many BIG events, and most people over 50 have probably been there more than once.

A mural outside fairly new flats.

A mural perhaps part of NUART or just contemporary art, -seen at what we call Østre Bydel, a part of Stavanger that has been turned into an urban and trendy area.

St.Svithun's Church

St.Svithun's Church is name of the Catholic Church in Stavanger.
The other building is what used to be the Catholic Hospital.

Out on our morning walk today.

HAIR.

It is HAIR turned into ART.
Seen at Stavanger Maritime Museum.

Not something I had noticed before, so thanks to the guy who worked there and made me aware of this strange piece of art.

Just dumped at a parking area near Vannassen / Åsen / Hillevåg.

We have quite a number of (street) art on murals.

Looking at one of the shops in Breigaten, where they have started decorating for Christmas.

Afternoon in Stavanger

Stavanger at 16.35 this afternoon.
Close to the fish market.

Work that needs to be done.

He was busy doing his work.
He told me about it, - and why they were using concrete instead of sand.
This is in a small narrow alley, where shops and food places use lots of water outside, so if they used sand it would disappear very quickly.
Good to have knee protectors when working in a place like this.

It is important to have work like this done before the snow arrives.

Orange scarves.

The statue of Arne Garborg in the city park has got an orange coloured scarf. Lots of people around the country have been knitting ORANGE scarves.

The Student Society in Stavanger runs FOLKEN, the building to the right.
It is a popular place for many people.
Lots of events going on there.

The news is full of it, here in Norway too.

Passing this wall at the back of the Cathedral, - in the city park, made me stop.

I don't know who has put it up, and so far "google" has not helped to find the answer.

If you hurry up...

If you are close to Stavanger / Sandnes today, you have the opportunity to buy hand made knitted products, vintage and second hand items, toys and gifts. You can even buy cosmetics that promise that your skin will be better than ever!
They also sell coffee and cakes.

The place is Ganddal Bydelshus in Sandnes.

Doors open until 16.00 today.

Chili Chocolate.

We enjoyed hot chocolate with chili and cream on the top.
Yummy!
The place is in Søregata, a narrow little road also nicknamed "the shoe-street".
Just look for the bright RED door.
You can watch the production (through a window) and when I was there, customers were ordering advent calendars filled with different chocolates.

(I payed 40 N.kr for each cup.)
