The Church City Mission...

In 2016 the Church City Mission started a campaign to knit orange coloured scarves to homeless people, or people who are less fortunate in one way or another, and who could benefit from something useful, colourful, nice and warm in the dark winter months.

I saw some in the city park last year, and I have friends who knitted several up to the day (November 1st.) when they are given out at many places around Norway.

I started knitting one last weekend.

Magiske Masker.

A beautiful shop (near the harbour and the Oil-museum, just opposite the Geo Park.)
They have all what you need for knitting etc. and also nice local handmade items, perfect as gifts.
Very welcoming and friendly people working there.

A little pocket friend

I have a good friend and ex-colleague who always has several knitting projects and a big heart for other people.
It is just amazing how many babies who have received a welcoming gift with beautiful handmade clothes.
And it is not only her family and friends who get knitted gifts from her. Before Christmas she gave lots of handmade woollen gloves, scarves and hats to people who are less fortunate, through a centre for young drug addicts. The latest project that she is involved in is "pocket friends", small teddy bears that will be given out to children in ambulances on their way to hospital. A personal little friend .....

I don't know anyone else in Norway, who does so much for other people! 

KARI & JON.

I sometimes see people and think, wow, they really suit each other.
And several times this week I have met KARI and JON out walking their dog.

Of course I noticed Kari's bright pink PUSSYHAT, so she got some sort of "an extra star" from me.
She has just finished knitting number five!

I am lucky to have some American friends who took part, and even went on the marches too.

Here in Norway, Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim held marches, as many other cities did around the world. If there had been one here in Stavanger I would have been there!

Kari and Jon are a sporty couple. If you see a pink Pussyhat out in the fjords, it might be Kari out swimming. If you see Jon on land taking photos, - it is definitely them.
Since May last year she has had her own project, taking an outdoor swim once a week, and believe me it is pretty COLD now.

Orange scarves.

The statue of Arne Garborg in the city park has got an orange coloured scarf. Lots of people around the country have been knitting ORANGE scarves.

SEVEN years with blogging....

Seven years ago I started blogging. And I have not missed one day!
Thanks to all of you who have taken time and commented on my blog and sometimes on Facebook.

I have also had the pleasure to meet some of my fellow bloggers from Menton, Saint-Pierre-De-Corps and Strasbourg. (France)
From London / England
Barcelona in Spain, Budapest in Hungary and from Lund in Sweden.

I have learned a lot about places I had never heard about before, and I have learned quite a bit about my own city too.

We have had a day filled with rain..... and I have started knitting on a new project today....

A GIVEAWAY.

My ex-college and friend invited me on a trip to the valley OLTEDAL, less than an hours drive from Stavanger.
Do you see the "HOLLYWOOD sign" up in the mountains she asked, and pointed out of the car window.... And yes, there was a feeling of being in America when I saw the sign with the name Oltedal up there :)

We went to LAFTHUSET , a cosy place where they are selling all you need for hand knitting, and also machine knitted garments, from the local factory.

Friendly and helpful people working there.

It is also a place where you can have something to eat, and I noticed that they had quite a lot of things that would have been perfect as gifts, including some very good bargains up on the first floor.

They have some guided group tours coming in , tourists from cruise ships etc. But mainly customers from the nearby area, and if you live in Norway they send off things you can order.

France, Sweden and Denmark have agents who work for them too.

My friend told me that she had been there on knitting events in the evenings, and lots of people had  turned up from much further away than Stavanger.

It is OPEN every day!

FRETEX, a company run by the Salvation Army have had popular shops all over Norway for years now. Not only "poor" people go there to find a treasure or two.
People who like Retro style or just want to mix & match different styles can often find a bargain!

Here you see a collection of hand knitted woolen sweaters for kids.
One thing is for sure; knitting has become very popular again here in Norway.

Many tourists, even those who travel 1st. class on cruise ships, have been shopping their hand

knittet Norwegian sweaters from FRETEX, a second hand shop run by the Salvation Army.

A good idea!

They are made of wool, and are perfect for the winter season.

Also nice to think that there are people in Germany, Italy, USA, UK, France etc. who actually are wearing these woolen "kofter" that have been knitted by local people here in the area.

The STORM ended without any major problems here in Stavanger. Local ferries stopped for a while, and the big ferry to/from Denmark was also stopped. We have had a beautiful sunny and cold winter day today.
