New born kittens.

Just a snapshot, but we got to see some cute kittens today:)

They were born around lunch time.
The six year old boy holding the kitten had never seen a new born kitten before, so it was a big moment.

An exciting place for children (and adults) to explore sciences is the science factory (Vitenfabrikken) in Sandnes.

Food on the deck.

The food festival is now over.
This is a glimpse from yesterday, when some people were enjoying lunch on the deck of the boat named Sandnes.

It's always nice to take a stroll around the annual food festival (Gladmat).
Ok, I have to say that there are too many stands looking too much like the previous years.
On the other hand  that is perhaps what makes money and what people are looking for?

Anyway, today I really enjoyed seeing kids having a good time at the BLUE PLANET stand, where you can actually get to know more about what is in the sea.... and hold and feel some different species.

Still sunny, just a bit of drizzle in the air earlier today. Quite humid and unusual high temperatures.

The shoe shop has gone?

There are buildings that are being knocked down in the centre of Stavanger.
Hopefully they will be replaced with something nice that fits in well with the others.

There are quite a lot of people here who "love" old american cars.

Sunny Sunday.

When most of us were either at work, at home relaxing in the garden or perhaps on the beach, one person was taken by the air ambulance to another hospital....
I hope it all went well!
We have a very good hospital here in Stavanger, but sometimes treatment is provided at other hospitals.

It is not often I can say it is HOT here, but today it felt really nice to find some shade from time to time.

The woman working there could not tell me anymore about the artist, and I did not see any information.

Russian music.

Street musicians are not all the same, some are entertainers, lively and happy, some are really sad, and the same with the music. Our narrow streets have more and more people coming from abroad who sing and play.
This group came from Novgorod in Russia.
Nice music.
Lots of people stopped and listened and had a glance at the unusual instrument on the left.

WIM.

I met a real enthusiast today!

The Dutchman WIM, living in Sandnes, just south of Stavanger, was out with a fantastic combination motorcycle model, URAL (www.ural.com)
Wow, it must be great to drive it on such a beautiful day like today!
He told me about trips that he and his wife had taken, and soon they will be on another trip, heading towards Lillehammer.
He has been driving it out in deep snow as well as on gravel roads.

There are not many URAL owners in Norway, so I guess he will attract quite a bit of attention from bike enthusiasts when he is out.

Nice to see some colourful windows on a building (a car park) that are all too often, grey and hopelessly boring.

Skiing.

It is way too hot for snow, but some people still find a way to go skiing.

Marte and Benedicte.

It has been another VERY HOT day, which is quite unusual.
Well it is going to last until Sunday, so we better get the most out of it.

MARTE (on the left) and BENEDICTE were out with Marthe's dogs tonight.
(Benedicte also has a dog but he was at home.)

They are enjoying their summer holiday, and in ten days time they will be off to a beautiful greek island.

Do you use the library?

The library has changed a bit over the last  months.
It is in the culture house and has plenty of books, a good selection of
newspapers, magazines, music and films.
Are you a regular user of the things your local library can provide?

A guided tour.

The man in the read anorak was busy talking in a language I did not understand, but I guess he was a guide telling a group of tourists about our city. They were standing in front of the statue of Alexander Kielland, a famous author, who has been standing here for many years, facing the harbor and the once lively marketplace (the marketplace has been much less active over the last few years).

Rainy morning.

On my way to work this morning, before 06.00. (Not me driving.)
I got my coffee and the newspaper.
Looks promising….. we might soon have +30C all over Norway

Streetlife.

I see soooooooo many people taking photos.
Later I found out that there has been a huge international conference with chefs from many countries.
Perhaps she was one of them?

Charlotte and Victoria.

Charlotte has just finished her university studies in marketing and Victoria had done the same with psychology. ( Both from Surrey / England.)
They were off to Amsterdam this afternoon to continue their 2 months trip around Europe.
Starting off by walking up PREKESTOLEN / The Pulpit Rock. I asked them what their plans were, and with a good sense of humor,  a giggle and a laugh, they said that growing up and getting a job was on the agenda. (perhaps it was the other way around?) Anyway, wish you all the best! PS. Lots of rain here tonight, so you were lucky:)

A busy day.

Busy at the old market place today.
There were many cruise passengers in town.
The sales people here spoke so many languages….. and the tourists payed cash with Euros.
A good day for shopping!
