Stavanger is the fourth biggest city in Norway. It is situated on the southwest coast. My aim is to try to capture something from every day, from the area nearby too, and when I am not at home I will still try to put up a photo from my archive. Welcome back for another look.

Very sad!
the same in our town ... the contrast between the huge statue and the woman sitting is interesting .
It seems this is a problem around the world and it's getting worse what with the economic situation.
sorry, but a funny picture next to the statue!
here are a lot of homeless too..
impressive...
I believe there is enough in the world for everyone, but we haven't figured out how to share the wealth.
I love the tall statue! Looks like cool but nice weather, Gunn!
We are having a similar discussion in Stockholm. They are saying that these people are poor, but that they are being controlled by other people, and if you give money to them chances are that the person in control will get most of your money.
Stefffe is quite right!
Personally, i NEVER give to beggars because you never know if you are helping someone, donating money to backmen, or, making a problem worse... I donate to organizations that provide help to those who really need it instead... A better solution I think?
Here too there is a similar problem. I was chatting to a Big Issue seller recently and he reckons the Romanians have it sown up in some of our towns and cities. I thought this was the case having heard a similar story on the radio. I prefer to help the charity Shelter, they help the homeless.
Very thought-provoking photo - the contrast of success and lack of success...
I don't think one can simply walk past distress (how heartless would we be then?), but I do know that charities often advise not to give to those who might use it for alcohol or worse.
Tough one.
