GLADMAT 2012

The annual food festival started on Wednesday, and I had a look and a taste of some of the things.
I actually thought it was the best we have had in town!
(Of course it helped to get some sunshine too!:)
There are people who always make sure they go away when there are festivals, and there are people who make sure that they always go and meet up with family and friends for some food and drinks.
This is COOP`s entrance. I noticed that there were quite a number of tourists who wanted to have their photo taken just here.

"The British Amateur Theatre Society" has been active here in Stavanger for many years.
(Take a look at bats.no)
Today I went to see them in action at the Humor Festival.
They are all just amateurs, but they seemed much more like seasoned professionals.
I really enjoyed their performance "1001 Arabian Nights"

Last Friday, Saturday and Sunday "Stavanger Flowershow" was held, and very easy to spot!:)
The sun was shining and lots of people enjoyed these colorful creative flower displays that surprised and brightened up the city centre.
It was the 2nd year that this event has happened and I have to say it looked soooooo beautiful!:)
Elise and Elisabeth in their white T-shirts from "Blomstergården" at Randaberg, were two of the many participants.

This evening I have been to http://www.sandnesbrygge.no
It is the last day of the Humour Festival, and tonights show was called
“Fedre på Felgen”. It was FUN, but also very different to the other two shows I have put out on the blog. And I think that is one of the things I like, the range of different styles.
Tonight there were mainly “aduls” in the audience. When I left I thought “cosy” was the most correct word to describe the evening.
(There are multiple events happening throughout the region, some occurring at the same time.)

More FUN and more LAUGHTER!:-)
We had a great time at “Cementen”, see http://www.cementen.no
It is amazing what these stand-up comedians manage to come up with!!
The show was called “Usett & Uhørt” Directly translated; “ Unseen and Unheard ”

The Big Norwegian Humour Festival started last night.
Take a look at http://www.humorfestivalen.no and http://www.folken.no
It is an annual event and this is the 17th festival. But it is the first time that the students have been a part of the Festival.
There is a lot of stand-up comedy, cabaret and concerts both in our city, Sandnes and Egersund.
I was at “Folken” tonight, a house/stage where students had a show called “Nymalt”
Directly translated “Newly painted”.
Many artists have been discovered there, and who knows, there might have been some people in the audience looking for new talent.
Fredrik Brimsø and 7 other students had a brilliant show!
Well done!:-)

Stavanger has had it`s first Flower Festival over the last two days.
This morning I decided to take a look.
These are plants given from local greenhouses, and put out on show by students who hope to become florists. I was really impressed by the displays, colors and creativity.
Thanks to some local enthusiasts, this is a new idea that managed to become a reality. I hope it will be an annual event.

GLADMAT 2009

As requested by Leif, here is some more from the food festival, “Gladmat”. As you can see, I decided to take a little stroll around it again this afternoon.
I felt it was very different from yesterday. Mainly because of the weather and that people were out enjoying the sunshine.
I thought that just one photo would not give the right impression, so I have made a “postcard”. I hope that this helps you to get a better feel for the atmosphere.
CLICK ON THE PHOTO, to enlarge it.
If anyone is interested, the burger served by the girl in red, is actually an elg ( Elk/Moose ) burger.

GLADMAT 2009

It is 11 years since the first food festival, “Gladmat”, opened in Stavanger.
Today it is the biggest one in all of the nordic countries.
This year more than 100 white tents have been put up with people who produce food and those who have restaurants etc, sell and give informations about their products.
I had a stroll around yesterday when it started. The weather is not the best, but lots of people enjoy the atmosphere and the chance to meet up with friends and colleagues.
The festival lasts until Sunday, and it is expected that there will be something in the region of 250.000 visitors.
As you can see, it was quite busy along the harbor.
