This is the family Jaatun from Sandnes, who were up early this morning to celebrate our National Day in Stavanger. I am sure they have had a nice day, even with some rain and a temperature of only +10C to +12C.
I can't really manage to get just one photo to tell you how the day has been, so therefore I am perhaps cheating, but I have added a couple of links, one from our biggest local newspaper, follow the arrow to the right and you will see 19 photos from the parade. http://www.aftenbladet.no/lokalt/Yrende-folkeliv-i-og-utenfor-Folketoget-2810645.html

And a YouTube film with our National anthem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhhStVKawbk

Norwegian students and Norwegian companies have celebrated all over the world, some at the ambassadors residence or at Norwegian schools.

Mummy, in todays photo came from Brooklyn.
I later found out that there are 170 nationalities in Stavanger. The city had an international celebration in a park today, with international food, music, games and speeches, also from the mayor who is about to leave for another job after 16 years in politics for Stavanger.

Looks like a big festivy. It seems every country has his own national party this time of the year.

It is a nice grouping. Every one has a smile showing his or her own distinctive personality. It looks like a happy celebration.

Flags certainly are important symbols all over the world. This is a great family photo. My Norwegian friends here in MN also celebrated and posted their photos on Facebook. National pride is good!

Irina, I rang the Municipal administration office just now, and they gave me the right number, 170 nationalities are living in Stavanger.
Even more than 117 as I first wrote..... Gosh, I better find the map.
Do I know the name of 170 countries ?

Steffe, yes, I/we had a nice "syttende mai"!:)

Very nice post. Flags are nice to see. Some are simple, many are complex and all are colorful.

Thanks for the informations and the links. You won't believe this, but Mr. Jaatun is the exact double of an uncle of mine (when he was a lot younger).

I love that even the little one has her own flag, love the tash, they are fairly out of favour here in Yorkshire.
