FOOTBALL

Football.
It sounded and looked like the football fever was high in town yesterday evening.

Football fans were out watching the game on big screens.
Here is a glimpse from outside one of the pubs near the harbour area in town.

So who will win the championship this year?

Mike and Lawrence.

Mike and Lawrence from Devon / England, where out and about in Stavanger today.
They were looking for something special, and I hope they got help from the place I recommended.
Anyway, they are on a cruise ship, and after the stop here they are going to Bergen, Flåm etc.
Lucky guys!

We were in to a discussion about lunch deals in the UK from supermarkets, .... "here we have to take a loan if we are buying something" Mike said with a grin.
But one thing surprised me, they said HA' DET when I had to rush to reach my appointment.
Nice meeting you.
Enjoy your holiday!

Steve and Marion.

STEVE and MARION are visiting Stavanger today.
They are from Boston / Massachusatts / USA.
Now they are lucky to travel around with the cruise ship VIKING SEA.

They told me that they had been on a trip to Voss yesterday, and had a great Constitution Day.

Marion is also a volunteer on the cruise ship, giving lectures on places they are going to visit.
Nice meeting them both.

BUNAD.

Today is the Constitution Day here in Norway.
A day to celebrate, perhaps differently, but very often with family and friends.
South of Stavanger I met these three beautiful teenage girls from Sandnes and Verdalen.
They are wearing BUNAD, our National Costume.
The style of bunad's is regional, these are local Rogaland bunad's.

Enjoy the sunny day!

Our big dog made a new friend in town today.
Beautiful to watch.
We met the girl later in town, and our dog was very happy to see her again!

From Portugal to Stavanger.

Happy times and good memories.
Isn't that what childhood should include?

This is Gabriel and his mum Ana who I met out on our morning walk today.
They came to Stavanger 4 years ago from Lisbon / Portugal, together with  Gabriel's dad who is working for the council.
Gabriel spoke Norwegian and is going to a Norwegian school. Mum who is actually from Funchal / Madeira spoke English very well. They were out in town  having a good time together.
Nice meeting you two!

From Hungary.

They looked happy, even on a grey Sunday morning in town.

This is Ildi and her mother Aranka from Hungary.
They had just arrived from Budapest / Hungary and were now having a quick look around Stavanger, before going by bus to Haugesund where they are staying until later this week.

And they have also planned a day trip to Utsira.
I asked how they found information about where to go.
Google... was the answer. So I guess guidebooks might be OUT these days.

I hope they will have lots of good memories from their holiday.

Nice meeting you!

Looking for YELLOW.

Looking for YELLOW on my walk through town this morning...
Well, this was a joyful and happy young man who was out with a group of other POKEMON  GO enthusiasts.

HappY Sunday!

Beach life

This is Elisabeth Nessler and Bjørn Sola together with their two dogs.
Not a common thing to see, a Norwegian guy wearing a kilt (on yet another snowy day!)
He told me that he actually had five kilts...
So perhaps he will inspire more Norwegian men to dress the same way?
Great to see a man who is man enough to dress just the way HE likes.

Together with a good friend I was out walking on the beach, before celebrating "International Women's Day" with some nice food at the hotel on the beach.

Have a nice evening, everyone!

Hello again.

Hello again.

The Danish nurse and her dog are still living in Norway.
I have a photo of them on the blog from August 2015.
Mollie is now 11 years old, and she was happy to be in town with Louise.

Nice meeting you again.

Thomas and his dog.

Two good friends.
This is THOMAS ASKE BERGE and his cute and energetic Jack Russell Terrier.
Thomas is both an actor and filmmaker. He studied to become an actor in New York.
Now he is busy with film production back in Norway.
Nice meeting you both.

These lady friends were out for a nice pre-Christmas lunch this afternoon.
It is a tradition they have had for more than 10 years.
Nice to meet you all.
Merry Christmas.

CITIES FOR LIFE.

These 3 people were out in the rain a few days back, doing volunteer work for Amnesty International.
It was a campaign to make people aware of what is happening in Saudi Arabia.

Death Penalty for kids/ teenagers!!

They were enthusiastic about taking photos of passers by with the sign, and collecting signatures.
(The big smile came after we all realised that the first two pictures I had taken had the sign upside down.)
Tonight there will be an event both at the Cathedral, in the streets, and at the Culture house
The mayor Sagen Helgø will give an appeal and the nominated Oscar film
"Cities of Ghosts:Raqqua" will be shown at the cinema.
This is a global event that will be marked in many other places

If you are in the Stavanger area and are interested you will find Amnesty International at the Culture house  from 16.30 and at the Cathedral from 17.30

Antique market.

This weekend there is a big event at Figgjohallen, south of Stavanger.
An eldorado for collectors and buyers of all things collectable, vintage, retro and of course antique.

So nice to take a look.

This is Ellen Ørnes. She has been the number one on Norwegian TV, as well as writing in magazines and her own books telling about all things that have to do with the different periods and styles etc.

For those who wanted a valuation of old items there were opportunities to do so.
People came from many places in Norway to show and sell from their collections.

LYKKELAND.

The filming of "LYKKELAND" finished in Stavanger yesterday.
It is a film about what happened in the 1960's when our city changed in to the OIL CITY.
Hopefully we will see it on NRK in the autumn of 2018.
There will be 8 TV episodes, and there are still lots of work to be done.
Filming abroad is on the agenda now.

Here you see two stylish men, Mr.Rakovic and Mr.Sandvik.
They worked as film extras and I had the pleasure to see them and others in action.

Two happy sisters.

Two happy sisters on their way to the cinema to watch the film "Elias".
I asked their parents for permission to take and publish the photo.

They looked so smart with their very feminine outfits!

It seems to be a popular thing to do on Sundays .... go to the cinema, I mean.

IVAR SKEI music shop

The unique and the BEST music shop I know about in all of Norway are closing their doors today!
After more than 100 years in business in Sandnes.

Nobody I know can match their knowledge in music, whatever field! Always service minded too.
Liv Reidun has been working there for 40 years and has created a cultural institution for a huge number of people, and she has also sold music at many festivals and concerts over the years.

Now times have changed, and many people buy music via the internet.

I feel sad when quality shops disappear, and in particular this one!

Today there was live music & a concert in the shop .... lots of grateful people, lots of flowers and lots of hugs!

Thank you Liv Reidun Gramstad! (Seen as number 3 from the left in todays photo.)
