Yesterday I went to an exhibition with lots of modern stuff for homes......

But what I really enjoyed was walking around "Fretex" and seeing what people had managed to create out of things donated to the Salvation Army. Quite an eye catcher this chair !:)

The building is the tallest hotel in Stavanger, "Rica Forum", with a fantastic view from the bar/restaurant on the top floor. It is next to the famous conference centre in our city. Also close to an art museum and Mosvannet, which is a popular place for walks. This is about 5-10 minutes by bus/car in to the city centre.

Another evening shot from the center of the city, near to the fish market and what used to be THE market selling flowers,vegetables etc. This place is called Vågen, and is also a place where big events sometimes take place.

Most people keep inside now when the evenings are COLD.

But if you want to smoke, it is just like most places in Europe, you are not allowed to smoke in public buildings, you have to go outside.

It is time to put the winter wheels on the car.

This type of tyre is called "piggdekk", which means spiked tyre.

It is always very chaotic when snow or ice arrive.

We should all use winter tyres at this time of the year.

"Piggdekk" can be used from November 1. until the first Sunday after Easter.

Some people choose to use "all year round tyres" which do not have the spikes but are still better than normal summer tyres.

All over Norway there is a huge event going on today to raise money that will be used to provide help to refugees. The Norwegian national TV company (NRK) does this once a year. This year the money will go to http://www.nrc.no/

These two young soldiers Marie and Linn Kristine were out like thousands of other people collecting money for the good cause.

As you can see, the sky was BLUE today.

It is still cold, but there has not been any more snow.

This is a photo taken from the car window this afternoon. It looked like two houses had been dumped there above the busy road..... wrapped in plastic...

My husband thinks they are new, and I think they have been there for ages and are just in the process of getting a new facade and roof :)

Just outside the Culture House someone who is madly in LOVE has written a clear message:

"Oskar + Camilla = true."

Will their love last longer than the message?? I hope so :)

A manhole cover (or "Kommelokk").

This is an example of one of the more ornate manhole covers that are to be found.

Autumn is (also) rain.

"Brustadbua" is a shop and bakery that is very popular and busy at the weekends, especially on a Sunday, when it is one of the few shops that is open where you can buy food, including in this one, fresh bread and pastries.

"Brustadbua" is a term for food stores that can open on a Sunday. It is based on the name of the politician who opened the way for Sunday opening, "Sylvia Brustad". The area of a shop has to be a maximum of 100 square metres in order to open on a Sunday, so these shops, often have narrow walkways between the shelves, allowing them to pack in as much stock as possible, but making shopping quite hectic.

Outside the main bus station, which is also immediately next to the train station.

There is a main bus station building, and some of the buses do depart from there. But these days, the bus station is really spread around the station building, with various stops for the different bus routes.

This seems to be the way that a lot of bus stations evolve in different cities around the world. I guess bus traffic outgrows the confines of station buildings.

This was not really the photo that I had intended for today, but due to a mistake in the photos that I had selected from the archive for this week (as I mentioned earlier, I am traveling for a few days), I decided to use this photo as an "emergency replacement".

I think it is nice that they have chosen lampposts with some character and style, rather than the simpler modern types that you see in many places.

This is a photograph from the Norsk Hermetikk Museum (the Norwegian fish canning museum). Some days, visitors can taste freshly smoked sardines or try their hand at packing "plastic" sardines into tins... a taste of how things used to be.

The statue was put out here by Galleri Amare and the artist, nearly 10 years ago.

This is the "Radisson Blu Atlantic Hotel". A photo I took exactly one week ago.

(Since than we have had RAIN, wind and today even flood !)

It is a very big, central and well known hotel in Stavanger.

Every autumn I am so pleased to see all the nice colours from the leaves nearly covering the front wall.

AUTUMN is here, and we have had RAIN and STRONG WINDS.

Yesterday we were out walking through some of all the colorful leaves.

Unfortunately, my little camera let me down, otherwise I would have shown you a photo of Mr.Erling Gjein, surrounded with all the "goodies" he and others had made at a nice marked we visited.

The Elderflower cordial, and the whisky marmalade are so tasty.

We will be back shopping at Stavanger Botanical Gardens Market next year too!:)

Not a place for those who don`t like heights!

This months theme day is Graffiti.

Sadly, we have plenty of tagging going on which costs a fortune to have removed for house owners, shopkeepers and tax payers.

We also have quite a lot of artistic graffiti (Tagging vs Graffiti).

Some places are officially "allocated" for Graffiti Art, which is pretty controversial for some people, but still, much graffiti can be found all over the city in "non-alocated" places.

Even out in the countryside you will find buildings decorated with Graffiti like this "monument" which seems sadly out of place against the mountains, - or perhaps not ?
