BUNAD.

Today is the Constitution Day here in Norway.
A day to celebrate, perhaps differently, but very often with family and friends.
South of Stavanger I met these three beautiful teenage girls from Sandnes and Verdalen.
They are wearing BUNAD, our National Costume.
The style of bunad's is regional, these are local Rogaland bunad's.

Enjoy the sunny day!

It is our National Day today.

Today I have seen many beautiful national costumes, we call them BUNAD.
Here you see a male "bunad" on one of todays models.
He was out with his pet pig, GOLIAT, who was happy to be out celebrating and sniffing around.
Goliat was also decorated with a ribbon in red-white-blue.

Some people start their barbecue season today, and most children are allowed to eat as much ice cream as they can manage.

Rain and sunshine.
There are always lots of things happening around the whole country, and celebrations going on at schools, with family and friends, out on oil rigs as well as abroad when we celebrate our 17.MAI / Norways National Day.

I started work 6AM this morning, so my husband had to raise the flag himself.
It has been a grey day, but now the sun is shining.
Off to see some friends tonight.
Anyway, I will just wish all Norwegians wherever you are, a very Happy "17.MAI"
And the same to all of you who are visiting or staying in Norway.
Celebrate and have fun!

I am abroad, so this time you have to see images from our Constitution Day via this link:

http://www.aftenbladet.no/kultur/Send-oss-dine-17-mai-bilder-3179254.html#.UZZkz6W4-_E

If you click on "vis flere bilder" (Show more pictures) under the images, that means you will see even more images sent in by  readers of our biggest local newspaper.

Todays image is of a van that has been parked for weeks.
No registration number, and it is covered with egg, ketchup, floral and "God knows what!"

I have told you about the RUSS, who are celebrating 13 years at school.
Luckily all of them are not as mad as this!!!

Soon they will have to sit their exams.
I hope they will be fit for it, and do well!

HAPPY WEEKEND!

It is our NATIONAL DAY, and most shops have decorated with red, blue and white.
(The colors of our flag.)
Some people dress up in their smartest outfit. But these dresses have to be used inside.
Rain most places in Norway today.

(Shop: Agape.)

GRATULERER med dagen, også til dere norske i utlandet.

This is the family Jaatun from Sandnes, who were up early this morning to celebrate our National Day in Stavanger. I am sure they have had a nice day, even with some rain and a temperature of only +10C to +12C.
I can't really manage to get just one photo to tell you how the day has been, so therefore I am perhaps cheating, but I have added a couple of links, one from our biggest local newspaper, follow the arrow to the right and you will see 19 photos from the parade. http://www.aftenbladet.no/lokalt/Yrende-folkeliv-i-og-utenfor-Folketoget-2810645.html

And a YouTube film with our National anthem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhhStVKawbk

Norwegian students and Norwegian companies have celebrated all over the world, some at the ambassadors residence or at Norwegian schools.

Mummy, in todays photo came from Brooklyn.
I later found out that there are 170 nationalities in Stavanger. The city had an international celebration in a park today, with international food, music, games and speeches, also from the mayor who is about to leave for another job after 16 years in politics for Stavanger.

Today is our Constitution Day, or as we say "Syttende Mai" (May 17 th.)
I am not in Stavanger just now, but if you follow the link you will find out what the day is all about. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwegian_Constitution_Day
My photo shows flowers in red - white - and blue. The colors of our flag, and believe me, most people, shops, restaurants etc. decorate with these colors before and on the big day!
Hipp - Hipp - Hurra!!
