Norway and EU.

Norway is not a member of EU.
We have connections, via the EEA. (European Economic Area)

In 1972 as well as 1994 we voted, and the result ended with 53,5 voting NO, and 52,2 in 1994.
Stavanger used to have an office for the Norwegian Movement for "Nei til EU"

I am thinking of BREXIT when I pass labels like this....

There might be big changes in Europe.
Time will show.

a-ha.

I walked in to a charity shop, and look what I found...
It made me smile.

They look so young and innocent.
Well, a-ha is probably the most famous band from Norway, and if you don't have (had) any of their music, I guess you would have heard this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djV11Xbc914

They have had concerts in 36 countries and have fan clubs all over the world.
It is more than 30 years since they became famous.

They are new in Norway.

Norway has international deals via the EU and UN to welcome refugees and provide a safe new home for those who have fled their countries, after years of war and a very difficult life in Syria, Afghanistan etc. There are several different ways to help, and many organisations like RED CROSS have volunteers who help them to settle down, learn the language here, start to study or find a job. Some have their families with them, some have family back home who they want to reunite with.

These young men (here on the photo) wanted to say "Thank You" to the locals, who have helped them to start their new life here up in the north of Europe. They "made a cafe" and served free Falafel, played music and danced. It was a great event!

Of course there are different opinions about how we help and where to help.
It is down to political decisions.
One mum I spoke with told me that she was so happy that both her children started school soon after they came to Norway and had settled down very well with new friends, and a new and different life.

Beach Volleyball.

STAVANGER is the place for  Beach Volleyball. (Continental Cup Final 2016)
Here is one long legged lady stretching before the game.
Well, that was yesterday, when the sky was blue.
Plenty of rain today....

SAFIER

The most colourful and beautiful schooner seen in town today.
From the Netherlands via Kiel and several other stops.
SAFIER is the name.

Friday 24 June 2016

GEORGE

I met an Englishman on the beach.
George from Norwich.

No, I did not ask him any political questions.
His thoughts about the EU etc.

I asked him what brought him to Norway.
"A girl" he said quickly

"My wife" he continued.

Yes, I thought.
LOVE that is what it is.

They met in Australia.

Life is full of surprises!

PINK - PINK - PINK

There is plenty of PINK out on the fields this year.
My husband call's these dinosaur tampons....

Joke aside. :-)

It is a GOOD REASON for pink "bags".
It is a campaign that will give 300.000 Norwegian Kroner to breast cancer research!

So well done to all involved.

Tuesday 21 June 2016

Fish cakes.

A warm fishcake is easy to recommend.
Try one or two from the fish market at the harbour at Vågen.

SEVEN years with blogging....

Seven years ago I started blogging. And I have not missed one day!
Thanks to all of you who have taken time and commented on my blog and sometimes on Facebook.

I have also had the pleasure to meet some of my fellow bloggers from Menton, Saint-Pierre-De-Corps and Strasbourg. (France)
From London / England
Barcelona in Spain, Budapest in Hungary and from Lund in Sweden.

And the first "City Daily Photo" blogger I meet was Leif and his lovely family from Eagan in Minnesota/ USA.

All good memories!

I have learned a lot about places I had never heard about before, and I have learned quite a bit about my own city too.

We have had a day filled with rain..... and I have started knitting on a new project today....
That is why I choose to show you an image from inside the beautiful shop MAGISKE MASKER.
You will find it close to the oil museum. A nice place that also sells gifts.

Happy evening to all of you!

The Science Factory.

One amazing place to visit with kids is VITENFABRIKKEN, The Science Factory, in Sandnes.
A short trip by train, south of Stavanger to the city Sandnes.

Take a look here for more info. in English.

Sunny Saturday.

Sunny Saturdays are special in Stavanger.
People are out and enjoying the day!
Nice to have a lively happy centre.
This is from VÅGEN, the harbour area just in front of the fish market.

A beauty in the Botanical Garden

A beauty seen in the Botanical Garden.

Tuesday 14 June 2016

At the harbour....

Busy day in town.
New tourists have arrived.

Monday 13 June 2016

If you look down at the reflection at the corner bottom right, you will see two flags. I was out trying to get a good photo of the 4 or perhaps 5 French Navy Ships lined up at our harbour....

BUT I turned my face towards this very elegant car Opel GT. The car had a Swedish registration, but the guy was actually from Stavanger. His name is Tore and he lives in Sweden, and had just been here for a friends B-day!

What a car!
I hope you will have a good time on the road back to Sweden!

Nordsjørittet 2016

Nordsjørittet 2016 or in English, THE North Sea Cycle Race is a BIG ANNUAL EVENT and  took place yesterday.
I guess there must be quite a few people who feel muscle pain and a sore bum today!
There must have been more than 10.000 people participating.
It is a mountain bike race "for most people", and you can choose to do 45 km. or 91km.
You can also ride without time recording.

Look at these two sporty women!
Impressive!

Saturday 11 June 2016

Utstein Kloster / Abbey.

It is the time of year when lots of couples get married.
Todays image is from the little church at Utstein Kloster.
An Abbey about 40 min.drive north of Stavanger.
A place well worth visiting.
I liked the stylish way they had decorated the chapel.

Friday 10 June 2016

An allotment garden.

This is what is behind the trees. ( See yesterdays posting)
I will recommend to all of you who like gardening or just to look at something pretty, go and take a look at allotment gardens, surrounded with flowers, trees, vegetables and fruits. It is not that far from the city centre, and it is a nice, well kept place with the perfect view down to the fjord. Friendly people "living" there. It was a pure pleasure to look around.

From April to the end of September, the cafe is also open on Sundays from 12 to 16.

The lady who you see here, told me that her husband came home with a key to this place 50 years ago, and she said that she will never ever sell the place.
I can understand why she said that.
A paradise on earth.

STRØMVIK is the name of this place. 44 gardens, and the smallest allotment area in Stavanger.

Thursday 9 June 2016

Looks nice.....

Looks peaceful here.
Tomorrow I will show you what I found on the other side of the trees.

Wednesday 8 June 2016

Tuesday 7 June 2016

Kampen Art Festival.

I asked a woman who worked outside this florist shop about the tree, and she told me about the project. KAMPEN KUNSTFESTIVAL
I have to say "well done" and also "smart" to the way they advertise the local art festival.
Kampen is an area in Stavanger.

Monday 6 June 2016

English Gentlemen.

These 3 English gentlemen told me that they had had a wonderful time on the great cruise ship; "Viking Sea".
They had visited St. Petersburg and Copenhagen. Now it was Stavanger and then up to Bergen.
They were going back to the ship to have their international lunch, before going on a tour around Stavanger. Well, I hope you were ok.
There was plenty of rain, thunder and even some hail just a few hours after this photo was taken....

Sunday 5 June 2016

Art by Maria Øverbye.

One recommendation for TODAY...
If you are in Stavanger, or are going in to the city centre, go and visit the gallery NEO at Nedre Strandgate 54.
Great art by MARIA ØVERBYE. (Paintings and sculptures.)
I am not paid to say that. I just liked it.

Saturday 4 June 2016

MUSIC in town.

A perfect day for the annual Music Party in town.

100 concerts - 9 stages - 1 day AND it is FREE!

Thanks to France and their "Fete de la Musique", whom we grabbed the idea from.

This is "Longfield & Super Skeletons" on stage, just outside the Culturehouse.

Friday 3 June 2016

LILOCERIS LILII .

They might have had a fun and happy time out in our garden... also eating quite a bit of our Lilies, but it will not last for much longer!
I have found out that their names are LILOCERIS LILII, and I have found out how to get rid of them, - thanks to google!
It is soon going to be action time!

Yesterday we had a nice temperature, and a bit of sun, but also heavy thunder, heavy showers and even some hail.
