Halloween is here.
Tonight I meet MEHDI (age 5) and his big brother RAYAN who will be 9 years old tomorrow.
Congratulations!!
I hope you managed to collect lots of sweets, and I am sure you will have a very nice party!

Sunday 30 October 2011

I just passed this window, and it looked like a nice place, quite arty and spacious.

Saturday 29 October 2011

Tonight we will have one more hour to sleep :)
We will start WINTER TIME, and turn the clocks one hour back.

GOD NATT!
Good night!

Friday 28 October 2011

Today the annual "Home exhibition" started at "Stavanger Forum".
95 companies are showing their products for cottages, flats, houses and gardens, and it is a popular place to get some new ideas, and perhaps some good advice for those who are planning on redecorating.

The next two days will be crowded in there.

Thursday 27 October 2011

Nice to see some splash of color this season!

Wednesday 26 October 2011

Finally I discovered one of my favorite statues again. It used to be outside the town hall, but for years I have been looking, but never found it.
Suddenly I saw it a few days back, in a new park area.

It is called "Communication", and it is made by the artist Solveig W. Schafferer.
Our city got it as a present from SR-Bank back in 1982.

Details from a nice door in the centre of Stavanger.

Monday 24 October 2011

The boy, who is standing in front of his mum, came over to me and asked if I wanted to support the TV campaign yesterday afternoon.
And of course I did, - just like most people all over Norway.
Take a look at this link:

Well done to the 4 of you, as well as all the others who were working on Sunday, to support this very important case!

Do you have some similar national charity event, where you are living?

Sunday 23 October 2011

Some people find time to do some voluntary work, and last night I met two of them who are out working for "Natte-Ravnene" (http://www.natteravn.no/finn-gruppe/)
TOR - ARNE and SIV are out on the streets in Stavanger from 21.00 until 02.00 once a month, together with several other adults in our city/suburbs (This also happens in many other places in Norway).
They work together with the police as well as ambulance staff.
Children and teenagers are sometimes in need of someone who can help.
Some adults might close their eyes and say that alcohol, drugs and violence does not exist !
But unfortunately there are more things happening than we like to admit.
It is an organization that will celebrate it's 20.th anniversary next year.
They all wear the same type of colorful anoraks, and are easy to spot!

An important job, and I am sure that youngsters and parents can be very greatful for all the times they have managed to help, or avoid a disaster developing.

Saturday 22 October 2011

I am out in town tonight. It will be a late night.... :)

A clear and important message I saw today is what I wanted to share with you.
Happy weekend!

- cheers :)

We have many Art Galleries in Stavanger.

One of them that has had many interesting exhibitions is http://www.kunstgalleriet.no

Yesterday evening was the opening of an interesting exhibition by the artist Unni Askeland. http://www.unniaskeland.no
Here you see the artist, next to some of her art.

Please check out both the links.

Thursday 20 October 2011

Every autumn I have the opportunity to go to some events where authors / writers are invited to talk about their new books, and read for us who are actually selling their books.

Last night there were several interesting books on the program!

He is well known in Norway.

Wednesday 19 October 2011

Autumn can be colorful.

Tuesday 18 October 2011

Winter light coming through the windows at Cafe Sting.

Monday 17 October 2011

Can you see what this artistic statue symbolize?
I will tell you more about it, tomorrow.

Sunday 16 October 2011

This is a tree stump.

Saturday 15 October 2011

There are many places in and around Stavanger to go for walks.
"Sørmarka" is one of them.
Well, some are jogging or cycling too, but not me!
As you can see, there are some nice places to sit and enjoy the view.
Sitting here, you can look out over the fjord to the mountains.

Friday 14 October 2011

Everyone who is living in the Stavanger region, and are interested, can pick up a FREE book like this one you see here from the library. I will add it on my pile of books that I will read in the months to come. It is made "cartoon style"...... written/created by Lene Ask, and the title says " Hitler, Jesus and granddad."

We have had a couple of days with no rain!
Fantastic!
Have a nice weekend you too.

Thursday 13 October 2011

Work in progress.

Wednesday 12 October 2011

"Madame" he said with a big smile..... and the service minded man, Chris from Utrecht /Holland, continued to ask if I wanted to buy some Dutch cheese.

Well, it was early morning, and I did not buy any, but perhaps later this week?

He and a group of other international salesman are selling food products at our marked place this week, and then they are off to Kongsberg (Outside Oslo), and later several other places, before they are back in Stavanger again for a Christmas market.

Tuesday 11 October 2011

Bus "0" / "zero" is free, and takes you around the city centre.
It has a different color from the normal buses, and is easy to spot.
I have never tried it, and I have not seen many people using it. But it might be ok when the snow and ice cover the landscape. It will be in use for the rest of the year, and if the politicians find more tax money, and if this is a popular bus to use, it might continue next year as well.
The bus uses biodiesel !;)

Monday 10 October 2011

Yet another rainy day here in Stavanger!
We have had a lot of rain over the last six months, today was no exception.
Starting to see weather reports of snow up in the mountains.
Today we changed over to winter wheels on our car.

Sunday 9 October 2011

The Swedish King and Queen "turned up" at the big Humor Festival last night.
Well, not quite... But a rather hilarious parody!

Saturday 8 October 2011

"The British Amateur Theatre Society" has been active here in Stavanger for many years.
(Take a look at bats.no)
Today I went to see them in action at the Humor Festival.
They are all just amateurs, but they seemed much more like seasoned professionals.
I really enjoyed their performance "1001 Arabian Nights"

Friday 7 October 2011

The group of Stand Up Comedians, from last night at "Sandnes Brygge."
Click on the photo to enlarge it.

Thursday 6 October 2011

This is a statue named "Go`dagen" (Good Day) or as many in Stavanger have nicknamed her; "Kånå". ( The wife)
Anyway, it used to be at the market place, and was something of a landmark, but now it has been moved to a more hidden place.
She has a twin sister in Trondheim, (Norway`s 3rd biggest city ) who I saw just outside the tourist office.
The artist who made the statue is Tone Thiis Schetne.

Wednesday 5 October 2011

Autumn is here again!:)
(Radisson Blu Atlantic Hotel)

Tuesday 4 October 2011

Huge vessels at the harbor this morning.
I found out that they are owned by Teekay Shipping.
Tomorrow they will have a christening of 3 ships!!!

Monday 3 October 2011

An old villa....
What I noticed first was the door and the little lion.

Sunday 2 October 2011

More things to buy?
This time, mens underwear.
Some of which can apparently protect you from rampaging moose or dogs... perhaps...maybe...

Hope you all had a good weekend!

Saturday 1 October 2011

I don`t understand WHY so many tourists buy these products, but they seem to be more popular than most of the things you can find inside shops here in Stavanger.

(We have had a lovely Saturday, with temperatures up above 20C .
Feels good after lots of rain....)
