The Church City Mission...

In 2016 the Church City Mission started a campaign to knit orange coloured scarves to homeless people, or people who are less fortunate in one way or another, and who could benefit from something useful, colourful, nice and warm in the dark winter months.

I saw some in the city park last year, and I have friends who knitted several up to the day (November 1st.) when they are given out at many places around Norway.

Take a look at this.

Images and more info. you will find on instagram, Facebook as well as google.

I started knitting one last weekend.

Rain rain rain.

Looking up today....
Well, we have had RAIN and I guess it will continue that way.

Looking up.

Looking up... while walking through some of the narrow roads in town.
Blue sky
and things I don´t normally notice.

Monday, 18 September 2017

Looking down.

Flying over the Sola /Tananger area.

Sunday, 17 September 2017

The English Queen has been here.

Seen on the floor at the airport.
I don´t know if she ever came back to our city, but I guess she has been busy and travelling more places than most of us will ever do.

Someone must have gone bananas!

Someone must have gone bananas.
Seen (at least ,what was left of it) on my morningwalk.

Friday, 15 September 2017

It is Friday.
I hope you have some nice flowers at home.
This is from my favourite florist shop in town.
"Sølvberget Blomster", just behind the Culture House.

- Happy weekend!

100 UGÅ

"100 UGÅ" has become like an annual event in Sandnes.

It is one week where restaurants serve dinners for 100 Norwegian Kroner.

This is "Hønsefrikasse" / "Chicken fricassee", traditional Norwegian food.
It tasted good.
From the restaurant named GamlaVærket.

The station building.

The station building at the railway station in Stavanger.
No trains continue from Stavanger.... just plenty of stops (back) south and east to Kristiansand and Oslo.

From Germany.

The result after yesterday´s posting:
Our conservative PM Erna Solberg will continue as our prime minister.
Some small & big changes for some of the many political parties.

This German family had been lucky on Saturday to walk up to the famous PULPIT ROCK in sunshine! The little girl managed it without any problems, so well done!

I just met them in town on the very rainy Sunday we had.
They were heading north for Haugesund later in the day.

I pointed out on the map where to find the Childrens Museum and also Old Stavanger on the other side of the harbour.

Nice meeting you.
I hope you will be back ( as you said ) and that the weather will be better than this week.

Election Day!

The Election Day is here.
Some have voted earlier, and some voted yesterday.

But most people do it today.

I will be watching the results on TV tonight.

Some info. in English:

A morningwalk in the rain in Stavanger.
Suddenly we saw the rainbow framing the arriving cruise ship.

Saturday, 9 September 2017

Sunny Saturday.

Luckely it turned out to be a nice sunny Saturday today.

The last chance for all the politicians to tell their promises before the election on Monday.

I was trying to get an ok photo of the place and all the people in front of the Culture House.

Well, I am not very tall.... so when I saw Anne Gunhild with long legs and a camera that looked very professional I asked if she managed to get some nice photos.

She told me that she was on a camera course and they were all out photographing people.
Good luck with the course and the photo shoots.

Rain-rain go away!
We have had more than enough of rain here on the west coast of Norway.

Red door seen through the car window.

Make the weekend cosy!

Thursday, 7 September 2017

A trip to Sandnes.

A trip to Sandnes yesterday evening also included a look around KINOKINO Kunstsal (art gallery).
If you live in the area and hurry up, you can see these artistic graphic works from around 1940 that have been scanned from slides and turned into large posters.

Wednesday, 6 September 2017

For some time now we have had the chance to buy personalised number plates.
I have seen a few when I have been out driving, but I promised to take a photo if I saw one, and here it is.
The smiling man driving told me that MISS B was his wife and singer in the band "Miss B and the bluecats."

Here is the car!
And here is some music and info.

Tuesday, 5 September 2017

Election time.

It is election time here in Norway.
You will find lots of information here:

This is a voting booth where you can still vote for a few more days.
So I guess it is just to find out WHO to vote for.

We might get a new PM soon, or perhaps Erna Solberg will continue to
be our prime minister for four more years.

I feel sorry for the people who have to LIVE here when this huge roadwork is going on.

A Sunny Sunday.

Most of today has been sunny and pleasantly warm.
So I thought sunflowers would be appropriate as todays image.

I enjoyed the weekend!
Hope you have had a good weekend too.

Saturday, 2 September 2017

A clear message.

This is a clear message to all of us who understand the dialect here in Stavanger.
Simply translated; it tells you: If you park here, it is just walking distances to everything that you need.

Friday, 1 September 2017

Jeff Gillette created this street art for NUART.
I guess most of you know who it is.

Enjoy your weekend!

Thursday, 31 August 2017

Thank you for the music!

We sat outside the coffee place at Hå Gamle Prestegård,
and suddenly heard the piano music and 8 men singing (They had arrived with their motorcycles)

Just like these kids we were drawn to the room.

Thank You for the music!

A nice memory from this years summer.

Tomorrow it is SEPTEMBER!

Wednesday, 30 August 2017

A bit of summer again.

A mountain walk.
South of Stavanger.
A feel of summer again today.

Tuesday, 29 August 2017

Autumn soon.

It is getting colder....
Autumn is on it´s way.

A bit of country life left in town.

A bit of country life left in town.

Sunday, 27 August 2017

I had never heard about the TROLL PENIS rock, until the paper wrote about it after someone somehow managed to get it down! Even international papers wrote about TROLLPIKKEN as it is also named.
Now when it is back on, more and more people are taking the walk up in the mountains to see it, and perhaps to have their photo taken when they are climbing on it.

If you are in the area, head south of Stavanger, and it is close to Egersund.
I recommend good waterproofed shoes, and to start early.
Nice walk when the wheater is good.

Saturday, 26 August 2017

Danish tourists in town.

Danish tourists in town.

Friday, 25 August 2017

There are still so many SALES on in the shops.
So good luck to all the people who like sales & shops!

Thursday, 24 August 2017

This is the book JENS, that was published less than a year ago.
It is about Jens Stoltenberg, written by him, who also has been our prime minister here in Norway. And who now is the Secretary General for NATO.

Strange that the book is already on sale as low as-70%, and I find it amusing that it happens less than 3 weeks before the election.

The Labour Party is not doing very well these days.... so I guess they have to work hard to change their position and the government.

Wednesday, 23 August 2017

More yellow in town.

More yellow...
Looking up...
Sunny day!

Tuesday, 22 August 2017

Yellow Superyacht Ruwenzori

The yellow super yacht Ruwenzori at the harbour.
Some are travelling with style :-)
Hope they enjoyed their time here too.

Afternoon sunshine and rain.
AIDA looks like a big beauty!
She came from Ulvik and is heading for Kiel after a stop in Stavanger.

Sunday, 20 August 2017

Double rainbow.

We have a mixture of sunshine and plenty of rain.
Yesterday morning I was out in the car when I suddenly discovered a double rainbow.
I am so pleased every time  I see rainbows.
This is a photo taken with my iPhone.

Saturday, 19 August 2017

What does the fox say?

This is a vintage plate from the 1960´s named "The fox" and decorated by Ridley Borchgrevink.
It is one of the trendy vintage things that young people are collecting from Stavangerflint.

(Well, I have only seen one real fox in my life, and that was at a parking area next to a tube station in the north of London.)

A few years back we had Ylvis with this Norwegian
song ( English text)  playing all the time:

Friday, 18 August 2017

Happy weekend!

Happy weekend wherever you are.

Thursday, 17 August 2017

Touring Europe.

As most of you know, we have some very narrow roads here in Norway.
This is the biggest RV I have seen this summer. The Canadian couple who owned it had the car towed behind it. Inside they had a boat.... And they were heading to the Stavanger region, so drive carefully if you meet them. It is huge!

PS. I did not tell them about all the roadworks, nor about the fact that Stavanger is the Norwegian city with most roundabouts.

I hope they have a great time and that they will see lots of sunny days too.

Wednesday, 16 August 2017

Sunshine and rain

It is a mixture of RAIN & SUNSHINE.
Today was actually sunny.

Tuesday, 15 August 2017

I love berries....

I love berries.
Just a simple joy, - together with coffee.

Monday, 14 August 2017

Evening sky.

Just a snapshot.
Evening sky over the beach at Sola.

Sunday, 13 August 2017

New and old.

In Stavanger we have a mixture of new and old building styles.
This is an image taken during the event FJORDSTEAM when the Maritime Museum had some old/vintage cars parked outside.

Saturday, 12 August 2017

Friday, 11 August 2017

Where is Stavanger?

This is where you will find the port of Stavanger

Thursday, 10 August 2017

It should be easy to spot...

It should be easy to spot THE TOURIST INFORMATION office.
A bright colour, close to the harbour and old Stavanger.

Wednesday, 9 August 2017

Biker tour.

They had all been working in different African countries with various jobs such as aid workers.
Six of them were Swedish and two came from Norway.
For eleven years now, they have had an annual MC tour.
This time they were touring in Norway, and as some of them said, these trips are a real highlight of the year, something to always look forward to.
"Grabbarna" as they referred themselves to, had high spirits, and even gave a "private piano and song concert" at the coffee place at Hå Gamle Prestegård.
It was a pleasure to meet you all!
Safe journey on the wet Norwegian roads, because today it has been pouring down most places on the south west coast of Norway.

Tuesday, 8 August 2017

Tourist information.

Closed doors.
The tourist information has moved!

Monday, 7 August 2017

Sandra Chevrier and Martin Whatson are the artists who have created this new art for NUART.

Saturday, 5 August 2017

Old boats are lined up along the harbour this weekend.
An event named "FJORDSTEAM 2017" have lots to show and explore.

Friday, 4 August 2017

More rain ...

Plenty of rain and a bit of sunshine today!
Several old wooden boats are around the harbour this weekend.
It is a big event and some boats will do trips out on the fjord for those who would like to use the opportunity.

Enjoy your weekend!

Jörg and Silvia from Vienna

This is Jörg and Silvia from Vienna /Austria.
They had arrived in Oslo a few days back, and had picked up their UK registered rental Campervan there, before heading south, and yesterday going to Lysebotn (a popular destination for many tourists in this area).

Nice talking with you.
I hope you enjoy Stavanger!
The weather is not so good, and I guess you are pleased for not sleeping in a tent just now.
