Do you look at this as a typical Scandinavian house?
I have not seen many similar ones, but I thought it was nice and fitted in well with the landscape.
(For more houses, please click on the label "houses" below)

Monday 30 July 2012

The politicians payed 1 million kroner for some footprints from famous Nobel prize winners some years back through an organization named "Worldview Rights". With its headquarter based in Stavanger, it had a fine vision
(when it started back in 1995 ), and probably had some important meetings. At the end, the organization had severe financial problems!

Anyway, many years later, these footprints have finally been put out around the harbor in June 2012.
So if you walk around here, you might see some of these 16 kilo heavy blocks on the ground.
I guess I would have been more amazed if the famous people had actually been to Stavanger! Some tourists like them, so I grabbed my camera and took a photo too, so that you can see the result of the one million kroner.

GLADMAT 2012

Let us hope that we will have some more days with sunshine in the weeks to come....
This is also an image from the food festival. Take a look at the "labels" for more photos.

GLADMAT 2012

The annual food festival started on Wednesday, and I had a look and a taste of some of the things.
I actually thought it was the best we have had in town!
(Of course it helped to get some sunshine too!:)
There are people who always make sure they go away when there are festivals, and there are people who make sure that they always go and meet up with family and friends for some food and drinks.

This is COOP`s entrance. I noticed that there were quite a number of tourists who wanted to have their photo taken just here.

Friday 27 July 2012

He was after my lunch!!:(
Then he moved away, and we both looked at each other.
At the end he gave up!:)

Thursday 26 July 2012

I met these two globetrotters yesterday, Evie and Duffy, from Antwerpen in Belgium.
Today they have hopefully had a great day walking up to Pulpit Rock!
Perfect weather!

You already know that parking before the walk is expensive, as you told me the price (100 N.kr.)
Yes, I know it is not cheap here. As I told you, I am looking forward to the book you will write, about "Cheap travelling"

Very nice to meet you, and I enjoyed your blog, even understood some of the language, Flemish.

Wednesday 25 July 2012

Amnesty International has many important cases to follow up.
Today they had a stand outside the Culture House at Arnageren in the city centre.

These two service minded volunteers (Lene Vastveit and Benedicte Westre Skog.) gave out information to passers by, and free coffee and cakes.

A good day for having a stand. We have had rain for days, but today we saw the sunshine again!:)

Tuesday 24 July 2012

I just like this piece of art!!:)

Made by the artist: Helga M. Bu.

Monday 23 July 2012

I looked for colors today.

Sunday 22 July 2012

"OH MY GOD" is a play that will be at our local Theatre from September 2012.
These days I just read it when passing by.....

Today we have had memorial services many places around in our country.
It is one year since we had the worst terror action since the 2nd world war.
77 people lost their lives on July 22nd 2011

Take a look at the labels./links underneath.

Saturday 21 July 2012

Yesterday after work, I popped in to a shop and bought a few things.
This guy was standing in front of the entrance with a HUGE amount of shopping, still waiting for the taxi to bring him and all the shopping back home.
The first taxi did not want him and all the bags, so a taxibus turned up.
I guess he is more organized compared to most of us.

Friday 20 July 2012

Looks nice this flat ( "to be" ) at the top! Evening sun and probably a nice view.
It is probably not cheap, as it says PENGER (money) sprayed on the big placard!
Anyway, only 10-15 minute walk from the city centre.

Thursday 19 July 2012

Wednesday 18 July 2012

So simple and soooo nice!
I treated myself to an Italian drink, and it tasted nearly as good as in Italy.
Beautiful evening tonight!

I always buy something not too complicated from places I go to, to bring back home.
Like food and drinks.

Well, of course I buy shoes, books and magazines ++

Tuesday 17 July 2012

One day I hope to take this boat and show you what these people were going to explore.....

Monday 16 July 2012

You can't walk through Stavanger without meeting beggars from Romania.
Some receive so much money from tourists and local people, that they can earn much more than people with conventional jobs. I am not making this up, I have seen them receiving 500 kr. (Norwegian Kroner) and a few minutes later 2 x 200 kr.
A big group of Romanies are now camping next to a residential area in Oslo. The police are there, and the situation is making headlines in the news here in Norway.
They arrive as "tourists" but are not gipsies. Norwegian gipsies will not help, so I guess it is a thing the politicians have to handle somehow.

Sunday 15 July 2012

A bit of everything when it comes to summer weather....

Saturday 14 July 2012

Streetlife this afternoon.

Friday 13 July 2012

If you are after information about museums in Stavanger, you can find it here. Close to the fish market and next to the harbor.
You can also use internet for free.

Thursday 12 July 2012

A bit of sunshine this afternoon.

Wednesday 11 July 2012

Have you decided where to go next?
It is good to travel and see the world if you are able.
( The sign says; "Dreams can be planned.")

Tuesday 10 July 2012

An evening flight ready to depart.
As you can see it is fairly light here.

Monday 9 July 2012

Sometimes I meet people I wish I had more time to get to know.
Last night I met Daniel and his mum Francesca, from Santiago in Chile.
They had been visiting "The Pulpit Rock" outside Stavanger, and were heading for an island outside Bodø, half way up in Norway, via a flight to Oslo.
They told me it was so beautiful in Norway, and that I liked to hear:)
Expensive here,-yes, I have to agree that it is expensive!:(
When I asked Daniel what HE liked the most, he answered very quickly; "Norway in a nutshell", a type of ticket that included train, boat and buses, and places like Flåm, Gudvangen, Voss and Bergen.

Best wishes for a safe and nice journey to both of you!

Sunday 8 July 2012

This is the time of year that we are overrun with Seagulls.
As you can see, this one has found himself a bag of leftovers to pick at.
Some places they leave quite a mess behind, and they seem to be quite skilled at getting things out of rubbish bins. Some places are now starting to use "bird proof" trash cans.
Hope you all had a good weekend!

Saturday 7 July 2012

I saw this old wooden door out on my walk this morning, before the rain started again.....

Friday 6 July 2012

HAPPY WEEKEND!
We have a very HOT day!
+28C
Love it!:)

Thursday 5 July 2012

A "leopard snail".
I thought that these were "good" snails, as they are supposed to eat other snails.
But I just found out that they are also heavy eaters of young plants.
You learn something new every day!

Wednesday 4 July 2012

Dutch tourists on the road....
Must have been a long and interesting trip.
How do you like to travel?

Tuesday 3 July 2012

I have photographed one of many jellyfish, that tourists also photographed around the harbor.

Monday 2 July 2012

From Mimi`s shop where you can get dance wear for adults and children.
