Marina Abramovic

The well known Serbian performance artist Marina Abramovic is now represented at the Contemporary Art Projects at the BGE.

A unique artist
with unique portraits.

The gallery has a very nice architecture and is situated next to the Catholic Church.
It looked like it was a popular place to visit on a Sunday.
Nice to meet people who are eager to tell about the art and the artist too.

(This is : Portraits with Onions, from 2008.)

FINKEL at the colourful street Øvre Holmegate is serving coffee, wine and food.
Outside they have this creative letterbox.

Three brothers.

Three brothers running straight in to the North Sea.
They were fit, very athletic and did not hesitate to run.
Their mum and sister were watching just like me.
Impressive, but it's still too COLD for most people.

Sunny afternoon and so nice to feel a bit of warmth.

Under the city bridge.

Under the city bridge.
The bridge goes over to Grasholmen.
And the road continues on to several other islands.

Don´t worry be happy.

He (or she) was more or less hanging out of the car window in the parking area.
Look at the face.
"Don´t worry be happy" ... springs to mind.

Today I am happy for a sunny warm day!
Probably the warmest day so far this year.
+18C, and it feels good for body and soul.

From Portugal to Stavanger.

Happy times and good memories.
Isn't that what childhood should include?

This is Gabriel and his mum Ana who I met out on our morning walk today.
They came to Stavanger 4 years ago from Lisbon / Portugal, together with  Gabriel's dad who is working for the council.
Gabriel spoke Norwegian and is going to a Norwegian school. Mum who is actually from Funchal / Madeira spoke English very well. They were out in town  having a good time together.
Nice meeting you two!

ONLY LOVE is what someone has written on the sign outside the railway station.

HARRY PEPPER is a restaurant that has moved to a new location.
It has been in town since 1986.
Perhaps time to give it a new visit and see if it is as good as it used to be.

A disaster.

Sad to see what happened with this house just before Christmas last year.
Two women, one visiting the other, had to be rescued out of the flames!!
One died shortly after.
Nothing has changed with the house.
I guess it comes down to insurance and also what the owner(s) want for the future.

Monday, 9 April 2018

Shoe lover.

Just walking by...
Someone who loves shoes is living here.

Sunday, 8 April 2018

Next to the church.

Stavange has got a wonderful place for Contemporary Art.
BGE Contemporary Art Projects
It is situated next to the Catholic Church at Kannik, and has not only great art, but also great architecture.
They also have a good collection of Art Books for sale.
New exhibition coming soon.

I will promise to post some art next time.
You might have been visiting it before the new building, when it was at Tollboden ?

Anyway, hope you have had a nice and happy weekend!

Saturday, 7 April 2018

Seafood for lunch.

Friends out for lunch at the fish market restaurant.
My food was tasty (could have had more prawns on the sandwich though).
Anyway, lots of yummy taste, and nicely presented.
Unfortunately, the place was noisy with people in and out, carrying ordered boxes with sea food, noisy music and air-conditioning, plus noise from the kitchen and the shop.
The restaurants phone rang again and again and again. Please answer it!
New staff, who struggled with the menu as well as the language.
On top of that, only one of us managed to pay. We were sitting an awful long time waiting to pay, so at the end walked up to the bar area to pay.
The coffee was good and if you are seated with a view out to the boats and harbour area it can be pleasant.

Blue sky this morning.

Out walking with the dog around 8 o'clock this morning.
Still cold, but much better than weather than in yesterday's image.

A bit of spring in the air.

Happy weekend!

Thursday, 5 April 2018

Where is the spring?

Where is the spring?
The day started with some (wet) snow and only +1C

Wednesday, 4 April 2018

I think many customers where happy when COS opened in Stavanger.
A Swedish brand, who have had 3 shops in Oslo, and last year the first one outside the capital opened here in our city.

Tuesday, 3 April 2018

Sad to see....

Sad to see that it is necessary to chain benches in town.

Monday, 2 April 2018

A white house.

I liked this house.
It looks like people have put love and money in to make it a nice and comfortable place to live.
The area might look a bit like "Old Stavanger" but it is on the other side of the city. A short walking distance in to the city centre.

Sunday, 1 April 2018

A pretty face.

A pretty face,
- seen in a fairly run down area of town.

Saturday, 31 March 2018

The cruise tourists arrived today.

Another cold sunny day.

Today we had a big cruise ship visiting Stavanger with British tourist who were on a 12 days trip up to Tromsø and Alta (North of Norway) before the last stop, Stavanger.

We noticed lots of the passengers out and about with their cameras.

This afternoon they left for Southampton, where they will arrive on Monday.

Friday, 30 March 2018

Bright colours and a mans jacket/ blazer decorated for Easter.
Nice to see window decorations that are both creative and fun.
This is from a shop in Kirkegaten.

Thursday, 29 March 2018

Sunshine - blue sky - quiet in town.
A window at the Cathedral, seen on todays walk.

Wednesday, 28 March 2018

A scene from Stavanger.

This  is one out of 10 different designs used for wall plates by Stavanger Lions Club.
It's from 1977 and illustrated by Henry Imsland, who was famous for his political caricature work via our main newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad.

A typical scene from Stavanger, with the Cathedral at the back.

Tuesday, 27 March 2018

Artistic busses.

The sky is BLUE over the clouds.

A bit of sunshine and +4C this afternoon.

This is just a snapshot.

We have a few very artistically decorated buses. This is done by the artist Hama Woods.

Monday, 26 March 2018

From Hungary.

They looked happy, even on a grey Sunday morning in town.

This is Ildi and her mother Aranka from Hungary.
They had just arrived from Budapest / Hungary and were now having a quick look around Stavanger, before going by bus to Haugesund where they are staying until later this week.

And they have also planned a day trip to Utsira.
I asked how they found information about where to go.
Google... was the answer. So I guess guidebooks might be OUT these days.

I hope they will have lots of good memories from their holiday.

Nice meeting you!

Sunday, 25 March 2018

Looking for YELLOW.

Looking for YELLOW on my walk through town this morning...
Well, this was a joyful and happy young man who was out with a group of other POKEMON  GO enthusiasts.

HappY Sunday!

Saturday, 24 March 2018

Coat of Arms.

Here you see the Coat of Arms for Stavanger, at the harbour area.

Friday, 23 March 2018

Chic cyclist.

A chic cyclist seen this morning.

We suddenly got a feel of spring today. ( + 4C )

Most of the snow down at the coastal landscape had melted.
Plenty of snow high up in the mountains.

Thursday, 22 March 2018

Early morning walk.

Up and out for an EARLY morning walk today.
A bit of fog and snow.

Wednesday, 21 March 2018

Poor visibility.

Stuck in a queue, and looking out the car window over to runway 36
Poor visibility and snow in the air.

Now 3 hours later the landscape is covered in snow, again.
I am longing for spring today.

Tuesday, 20 March 2018

Work in progress.

Work in progress.

Monday, 19 March 2018

Seen at the food shop...

Seen at the food shop...

We have plenty of news about Trump and American politics.
These days we have too much going on with Norwegian politics.
We might have some BIG changes tomorrow?

Sunday, 18 March 2018

Antique market this weekend.

One of the things I have been doing this weekend was visiting an antique market
Here are two old posters that were for sale.
The weather has been good, cold and sunny.

Saturday, 17 March 2018

Pine trees.

A sunny and cold winter weekend.
With a BIG dog at home there is no excuse for not getting up and out, even when it is -5C.

Friday, 16 March 2018

Tjensvoll, only 10 minutes drive from the city centre.

Thursday, 15 March 2018

Narrow entry & exit.

Narrow entry & exit.
Some parking places are worse than others.
This is one I don't like.

Wednesday, 14 March 2018

Foggy morning at Vågen today.

Monday, 12 March 2018

Just looking.

Just looking.

Artistic details seen on a step in the city centre.

Sunday, 11 March 2018

New film.

I will never forget what happened here in Norway on July 22. 2011
69 people lost their lives on the island. Total 77 people.
A Norwegian man had planned and carried out these two evil attacks by himself.

This week a new Norwegian film had it's premier, and the film is about what happened at UTØYA, the island where so many young people lost their lives.

People are saying that this is a strong film.

I have not seen it. I guess the intense marketing, with posters perhaps in all bus shelters, will make this a film that many will go and see.

Saturday, 10 March 2018

Old Stavanger

Old Stavanger with it's old wooden white houses and narrow streets.

Friday, 9 March 2018

Well done!

These two guys have been doing a good job on making a wooden path, so it will be easier to reach the beach for those who are out with a weal chair or a pram.

Thursday, 8 March 2018

Beach life

This is Elisabeth Nessler and Bjørn Sola together with their two dogs.
Not a common thing to see, a Norwegian guy wearing a kilt (on yet another snowy day!)
He told me that he actually had five kilts...
So perhaps he will inspire more Norwegian men to dress the same way?
Great to see a man who is man enough to dress just the way HE likes.

Together with a good friend I was out walking on the beach, before celebrating "International Women's Day" with some nice food at the hotel on the beach.

Have a nice evening, everyone!

Longing for SPRING.

I am longing for SPRING.
Today we had +3C and just a few drops of rain.
