Out for a walk.

We were both out for a walk.

I have never seen a fluffy creature like this before.
What was it?

Someone told me that it is a caterpillar.....
Perhaps that is right?
Just a bit strange now when it is so cold.

Keep warm and enjoy the weekend!

Oh, yes, it is a caterpillar. We have them here in Ohio, too. :)

In Brazil they are somewhat common and we call them 'hairy critter'. When I was a child I was told they burned the skin if touched, but I never knew if it is true.

Some caterpillars do have a toxic touch- it's a defence mechanism. I don't know which kind this one is though...

Looks kind of like what we call woolly caterpillars here. I've seen them quite frequently recently on the C&O Canal towpath.

I used to hear in the States that the severity of the upcoming winter could be predicted by the length of hairs on the woolly caterpillar.
