There's a different taste to the night indeed. Can't remember when last I went out after dark though; mostly due to taking care of my small son.

As VP said I think many big cities have similar problems. I did not think Leeds at night was too bad till by chance I got chatting with a chap who came over to see what I was up to with my tripod one night. Turns out he is A&E doctor at the city hospital and he said it can get worse than most people think!
