When there are cruise ships at the harbour, I very often see groups of people who are happy to have found FREE WIFI and are busy sending messages to friends and families.
I guess if you are working on a cruise liner you can't go home that often, so it is good to be connected again.

I have a friend who worked as a musician on cruise ships. That's a relatively "easy" job and still he said it was hard at times. I can imagine how these people feel.
It's a tough job- some of them aren't paid nearly enough for the work.
Staying connected is all important anymore.
I would never have realised that was the reason for the group phone-in.
Most cruise ships have their own and quite powerful WiFi: I often see the networks on my phone when I am around the port.
