Probably the most "sporty" statue in town.
It is just outside Stavanger Stadium (The old home of the Viking football team).
I have never stopped to look at it before, but it must have been decorated on our national day, so this time I saw it very differently and it made me stop and take a closer look.
Anyway, it was put up in 1958 and was made by Magne Vigrestad in memory of all the Norwegian sportsmen who lost their lives during the second world war.

Looks good. I wonder if he did it from memory, or perhaps a photo.

Excellent sense of movement in this sculpture.

It is an excellent statue, capturing the moment of impact. And I think the wreath enhances it. The sculptor would approve.

I agree with Jack - I'm sure the sculptor would approve !

So many people from all walk of life wasted by wars. The wreath suits him, both for the heroism and for the sport.
