CANCELLED, CANCELLED, CANCELLED.......
Stavanger airport, Sola, - this afternoon.
No planes anywhere in Norwegian air-space, due to the volcanic eruption on Iceland.
This is pretty much the same in the rest of Scandinavia and the UK.
Our PM is stuck in NYC. And our Crown Prince is in the same situation in London.
And everybody else has to go by car, bus, taxi, boat or train.
That means people struggling to get from A to B, holidays and businesses are affected.
People traveling to and from the oil platforms are delayed, and helicopters normally used to transport people with serious illnesses are grounded for the time being.
Remember this is a fairly big long country, with 5 million people living here, many in small places up in the mountains or along the fjords.

Wow! Is there volcanic ash reducing visibility causing the shutdowns? It seems like there has been a lot of seismic activity around the globe this spring.
The ash, even though it is mainly small particles, can act like sandpaper in the air, scratching up aircraft windows making them difficult, if not impossible to see through. It can also clog or damage jet engines, strip the paint off of an aircraft and cause serious damage.
Both friends, Ragnheidur and Laulau, in Reykjavik told me about the airplane problem because of the volcanic ash! Poor Iceland isn't very popular these days!
This is so interesting. I read about the eruptions on another blog. It's hard to remember how close some of the countries are...it isn't very likely that we'd be affected by a volcanic eruption on our west coast...
Good capture of this moment in history.
On the radio here, they said "people are coping as best they can and it's hard to be angry at a volcano".
Evrything around us seems so frail at times. I hope this will end soon, you captured it very effectively.
It`s unbelievable what the ash makes...in Germany only the munich airport works...
All others were closed...the flights canceld...
I hope everything will be normal as soon as...
Yes! Our president is stuck in Prague now! I wonder what else are we going to witness in our lifetime! We had two tornadoes in the last three days, one of them in Lisbon, and this never happened here before...
Great capture, Gunn!
We are all, really, at the mercy of nature.
This is so interesting and nice !!
It shows again and again how fragile and unprotected our little world is. And so small.
And we've got thousands of Frenchies, Brits, Scandinavians, Germans, etc, stranded here, because of all the flights from Spain to northern Europe being cancelled. And as there is a train strike in France as well, and they do have to go across France, BCN airport is a vast dorm now.
I was wondering wether you actually see the ash cloud up in the skies and if it is dropping down the powder...
I have been looking for dark clouds, but I can`t tell if it is ash or not.
Tonight it is raining, and perhaps it will be different tomorrow?
Sunday we might have some snow (again ! ) It is really strange.....
Global warming?
