BREIDABLIKK

The mansion "Breidablikk" is well worth a visit.
It is just opposite Ledaal, the royal residence.
Breidablikk was built in 1881, and the house was given to the museum around 1970.
A Swiss style and some beautiful items shows how the middle class lived.
(Remember: Don't pay for two entrances fees if you are planning to see both places.
The ticket is valid for both places.)

Inside Noah's Ark

There are some creative people around, and when I visited Noah´s Ark I fully understood that this has taken time to make. More than 50 people worked for 16 months to build it. Here are some images that show some of the things you can see inside "The Floating Bible Museum". It is 70 meters long, 10 meter wide and 13 meter high. The Dutch owner, artist and producer, Aad Peters, has said in several interviews that it is important to learn and know about our own culture, and I can see that this might be visited by many families and school classes too.

The ONS Artist this year.

TORBJØRN RØDLAND is the ONS Artist.
A photographer born in Stavanger, but now living in Los Angeles and Oslo.
I have seen some of his work before, but this time I had a look at KUNSTHALLEN.
If you are in Stavanger use the opportunity to see his work, and that include the film shown downstairs too.

I always sneak a photo or two of what is going on at museums.
People looking at art, or here some domestic work...

Today I went to the Norwegian Cookbook Museum together with a friend who is a very good cook.
We had a very interesting guided tour, not only to see the new and old cook books, old menus (written in French) from famous old hotels in Christiania (the name used for Oslo long time ago), but also to see the beginning of wine production.
They have already more than 6000 books, with more to come.
They also have a very professional kitchen, a restaurant as well as a auditorium for lectures etc.
The museum is part of the university here in Stavanger, and the university also provides hotel management courses for people who want to work in that branch.
Our guide was Mr. Helge Jørgensen, a gentleman and an Associate Professor, who has many years in the branch, and who for years have been a real enthusiast in getting the museum up to running!
Great to be there!
So which chef is your favorite, or what cookbook is your favorite??

The two women were busy reading about the artist who created the art on the BMW.
The museum had 7 of the 17 cars that have been decorated by artist from all continents.

And who was Mr. Sevland and lots of other people waiting for??
(Yesterdays posting.)
King Harald, who you can see arriving in front of Rogaland Kunstmuseum.
He is related to many other Royals in several Europeen countries.
There were plenty of police and security people around, and some very shiny cars.

The Stavanger Museum is the main one, but we have several other interesting museums named MUST (MUseums STavanger).
As a child I went there with my dad, and with the school.
As an adult I have to admit it was the exhibition in 2008 I will remember: see link here
Take a look at all the 12 photos.
The picture of the buildings are from this afternoon.
We have had snow, rain and sunshine today!:)

This evening I had an interesting chat with Mr. Erik Walle-Lie.
He has retired from the Aviation Industry, but is, and has been using much of his spare time and knowledge at the Historical Air Museum for between 10 and 12 years, where he, and other men meet up and restore the old airplanes that we all like to see in a museum.
Tonight he was working on part of the wing that belongs to a Catalina plane.
I saw the plane too, and I learned that the wing span is as big as 32 meters!!
The number of visitors at most museums are mostly going down, but at this museum the numbers are "reaching the sky", as I read in the newspaper a few days back.

Norwegian child labor.
Forget sending them up chimneys and so on, here we use them as pilots!
This is Mariéll age 10 and Hedda age 11 who were on their way to Oslo.
Okay, I took this photo inside the 737 Simulator at the "Historical Aviation Museum" near the airport.
Great excitement no matter what age.
In the summer the museum is open every day. The rest of the year it is open for the public on Sundays.
Companies sometimes use it for part of their team-building courses.
This is also Stavanger Daily Photo's 100th posting
