A scene from Stavanger.

This  is one out of 10 different designs used for wall plates by Stavanger Lions Club.
It's from 1977 and illustrated by Henry Imsland, who was famous for his political caricature work via our main newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad.

A typical scene from Stavanger, with the Cathedral at the back.

The STORM CAROLINE is outside.

The STORM CAROLINE is outside now, along the south west coast of Norway
I am so pleased I made it back home before it really started.

Pasta - wine and TV tonight.

Hope you are safe and warm wherever you are.

This is the Christmas tree at the place near Domkirken / the Cathedral.
Hopefully it is there tomorrow too.

Nine couples got married at the same time today.

TODAY was the BIG DAY for 9 couples who got married at the same time in Stavanger Cathedral.
It happened in cooperation with the food festival "GLADMAT" who provided beautiful cakes etc.
A very unique event, and a very different bunch of people.
The whole service was well done, not too formal, with music and lots of joy and happiness.

Christmas or not...

It is soon Christmas time, and here you see some children waiting to visit the Cathedral.
Today was a perfect day to take a trip in to town. Cold but sunny.

It is up to the parents to say yes or no for their children to attend a church service before Christmas.

Some schools in Stavanger as well as other places in Norway have decided not to use the word Christmas, and instead name it a December event, where they sing the songs but words as Christmas/ Father Christmas have been changed to something "neutral".

Probably difficult to be a teacher and talk about Christmas without using the word....

I guess the discussion will continue also after Christmas this year....

Take a look at this :

DON'T THINK ABOUT IT !

Don't think about it, - the text says.

Of course I think about it!

The news is full of it, here in Norway too.

Passing this wall at the back of the Cathedral, - in the city park, made me stop.

I don't know who has put it up, and so far "google" has not helped to find the answer.

A special meeting.

I sometimes meet people I will never forget.

JINE is one of them.

She very often pops in to the Cathedral on her way to or from school.
I am a muslim she told me, but I can find God here too.

Yes, why not!

Jine has been living most of her life in Norway and spoke of course the language fluently.
I hope life will treat her well, and I hope she will continue to be a strong and independent woman.

Great work!

Teenagers, pupils from the school Bergeland (art, design and architecture.)
have made this fantastic artwork!
The Cathedral's old window is in Trondheim for restoration. I have to say that all the light and the  nice colours made the church room feel much more pleasant and more open.
It might be there for the next 2-3 years... so do take a look if you are in town.

You are welcome to follow "Stavanger Daily Photo" on Facebook:)

All nurses.

When I passed the Cathedral today, I noticed lots of people wearing different national costumes.
All the people you see here, have just finished their Bachelor degree, and are now qualified nurses.
That is what I call a very important job they are going in to.
Congratulations and best wishes!

No tagging....

I walked by the Cathedral one day and suddenly saw this.
It looked like some sort of tagging, but thank God it was only the light making reflections.
Some time back, there were some crazy people who damaged the famous window by throwing stones! These days it is being restored by specialists from the famous Nidarosdomen in Trondheim.

Restoration work.

The Cathedral is undergoing some serious restoration work, so the front and the entrance in to the church is now covered up while the work is taking place.

So this is what it looked like tonight less than 1 hour ago.

One year ago the photographer Henriette Framnes Time shot 220 portraits of men and their mustaches.
You will find more info. and also WHY she did it on: www.bookofmovember.com

Some of the photos are now placed out on the old market place in front of the cathedral.

Soon it is going to be busy in town.

Another SUNNY day today.

To give OR not to give, that is the question.
