9 to 5

9 to 5......
Well, most people in Norway are working from 8-4.
At this time of year it can be dark both when we start and finish work.

SUNNY DAY!

Today we have had a nice sunny day!
Cold, with only +2C.

Many people have left town, either to escape the rain and cold and therefore gone to Spain and other warm places. Those who don't feel any pain and cope ok with the snow, rain, cold and the dark days have perhaps gone to cottages up in the mountains.

Still some people left... but it is quiet, quiet at workplaces like here at Forus, an area where thousands of people work in different national and international offices.

It is also quiet on most roads and places away from the bigger shopping centres.

It is the time for EXTREME SALES and to change Christmas presents that did not turn out to be what was wanted.

I hope you too have some nice relaxed days.

Rain-rain

Rain-rain go away!
We have had more than enough of rain here on the west coast of Norway.

Red door seen through the car window.

Make the weekend cosy!
Enjoy!

Pet XL and Igroom Spa.

Pet XL is the name of a new shop that opened their doors this week at Forus.
It was started by some enthusiasts who are aiming to open several more shops in other Norwegian cities.

The shop is huge, and I will definitely be back for some shopping.

What I thought was great was the fact that they had included a spa for dogs, and will have a vet there too.

The owner of the Igroom Spa had a cute customer that looked like it was just a pleasure to be there.

This afternoon.

Still plenty of rain, strong wind, storm .....
Good to be indoors.
This is from the motorway, heading south.
Severe weather warnings for tomorrow many places,
including Stavanger and Bergen.

Diamanten.

This building has been some sort of a landmark for years.
I am not sure what it is used for today, but a friend who worked there ten years ago, said it was a place where they repaired watches and jewellery, and a place were companies could buy gifts for their employees and associates with company logos on.

TVEDT senteret

A shopping mall with 28 shops, some really BIG.
Also a place where you can find restaurants, and one of them with sushi.
It is located south of the city with lots of businesses having their offices nearby.

WIM.

I met a real enthusiast today!

The Dutchman WIM, living in Sandnes, just south of Stavanger, was out with a fantastic combination motorcycle model, URAL (www.ural.com)
Wow, it must be great to drive it on such a beautiful day like today!
He told me about trips that he and his wife had taken, and soon they will be on another trip, heading towards Lillehammer.
He has been driving it out in deep snow as well as on gravel roads.

There are not many URAL owners in Norway, so I guess he will attract quite a bit of attention from bike enthusiasts when he is out.

Happy Summer!

Colorful windows.

Nice to see some colourful windows on a building (a car park) that are all too often, grey and hopelessly boring.

Work in progress.

I hope they will get most of the work outside the building done quickly.
We will have SNOW (and storms) soon.

It is amazing what you can find on a field!

Early morning and in to the roadwork area again.
Bright and sunny the whole day!
And the temperature went all the way to +11C.
Tonight I am off to see the film "Kon -Tiki" and to take a drink or two in town.
HAPPY WEEKEND everyone.

One of the many new office buildings, out at the Forus area.
Do you like the style?

Monday, 24 May 2010

I guess most cities have an area where many of the big companies are based.
FORUS is where thousands of people are commuting at least 5 days a week. It is about a 20 minute drive to the airport and the same amount of time in to the centre of Stavanger, when it is not the rush hour.
There are a huge variety of building styles. Some are more interesting than others.
