Probably the most "sporty" statue in town.
It is just outside Stavanger Stadium (The old home of the Viking football team).
I have never stopped to look at it before, but it must have been decorated on our national day, so this time I saw it very differently and it made me stop and take a closer look.
Anyway, it was put up in 1958 and was made by Magne Vigrestad in memory of all the Norwegian sportsmen who lost their lives during the second world war.
Looks good. I wonder if he did it from memory, or perhaps a photo.
ReplyDeleteExcellent sense of movement in this sculpture.
ReplyDeleteIt is an excellent statue, capturing the moment of impact. And I think the wreath enhances it. The sculptor would approve.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jack - I'm sure the sculptor would approve !
ReplyDeleteSo many people from all walk of life wasted by wars. The wreath suits him, both for the heroism and for the sport.
ReplyDeleteHappy May 17 late - I was not able to log into other blogs until today this week.
