This is my posting number 200 :-)
I will use this opportunity to say THANK YOU to my followers and everyone else who has taken the time to leave comments, which are always very much appreciated.
Todays photo is from Rogaland Museum of Fine Arts. It is one of the statues from "Broken Column" ( Click on the labels to see a few more of the 23 sculptures. ) They are all a copy of the artist Anthoney Gormley, and they are all placed facing 10 degrees west.
We have an Anthony Gormley figure in Lismore Castle! He uses his body for the mould for all his sculpture figures, gets covered in clingfilm and then uses a straw to breathe thru and gets covered in Plaster and this is removed when it sets and is used as the mould for the bronze or whatever he uses to cast the figures! Seems like a lot of work but he probably gets a lot of figures from one mould!

Hope you visit my blog and maybe even follow it! I haven't yet been to Norway but have had friends and colleagues from there over the years.
Regards, Catherine.
Very interesting method of making his sculptures, and placing them all facing 10 degrees west. I wonder what the significance of that is?
ReplyDeleteBTW, congratulations on your 200th post!
Yay for 200! Congratulations! Looking foward to more lovely photos, like this one :D
ReplyDeleteCongratulations for your 200th post!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what will happen to the 'meaning' of this work if some ignorant and lay hand would move it to 11 or even 12 degree...
Congratulations on your 200th posting! I like the idea of the Broken Column and I like your photo, interesting perspective (I like the play of shadow)
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I had to lol at VP so hard.
ReplyDeleteThis is a strange work but somehow it inspires me to life life to the full!
Happy New Year!
I'm not a frequenter of art museums, but this display is intriguing. I like the way he has got the two shadows and they overlap to produce a third and darker image.
ReplyDeleteWonderful art. Congrats on your 200th! Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteThings just get curiouser and curiouser! Better not let me get near that thing 'cause I'm going to do what VP fears, turn it to 11 degrees and face it East.
ReplyDeleteOf course, that could bring on Armageddon! ;-)
I especially like the shadow. A very interesting piece of work.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteAh yes I thought there was something familiar - there are some statues of him on the beach at Formby near Liverpool although I've never managed to get to see them other than in photographs.
ReplyDeleteYou know I love this, I still remember the other photos.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the 200th post!
