Happy New Year to YOU.

This is an image taken some months back.
A view from Vågen, the harbor area here in Stavanger.

We are soon starting a new year.

Celebrate and have fun tonight !

Frode. Alkha and a crocodile...

A CROCODILE and two men were also seen next to the red tree.

The men, FRODE and ALKHA are working for the same company, and maintaining the city, keeping it clean and pretty.
The crocodile is one of several "animals" from the theme park,
with african animals, at the playground near Stavanger Aftenblad, our biggest local newspaper.

The RED tree.

This is the most colorful tree in the park at the moment.
Today I took a closer look.

Rain-rain go away!

(Well at least the newspapers are rapped in plastic!)

There are quite a number of office and shops areas that are empty and ready for new people to take over..... So if you have plans for something new, and money as well as the spirit for something new for next year...... you could start out with looking around Søregaten where there are places on both sides of the little road....

I seriously think it is sad to see this happening in Stavanger.
Is it the same in many other cities?

Control tower decorated for x-mas.

Even the tower at the airport has been decorated for Christmas.
I think it had even more lightbulbs around the windows than this, but perhaps it was taken down or fell off when we had some storms.
Anyway, today is the big day for people who are traveling back after visiting friends and family. Some have taken tomorrow off from work, and some will not go back home until after the new year.

Quiet in town.

In Norway the presents were opened yesterday evening (and after that, Father Christmas went to England.... we were told as children).

Stavanger is very very quiet.......

I hope you are having a good Christmas holiday wherever you are.

The statue is one of my favorites in Stavanger. and is in the beginning of the narrow little road Nygaten.

GOD JUL / Merry Christmas to all my blog followers.
I hope that you celebrate Christmas, in just the way that YOU want.

Monday, 23 December 2013

Still X-mas shopping?

Still more shopping to do?
There are shops open until late and even plenty of SALE offers before x-mas.
Seriously though, would you have bought slippers like these??

Sunday, 22 December 2013

Yet another Gormley.

Another Gormley sculpture
( copy of the artist himself) seen at the restaurant Renaa.

Click on "Broken Column" under the text and you will get more photos and info.

Wooden x-mas decorations.

Some people choose to decorate with more natural styled Christmas decorations.

Arctic machine

This image shows you what kind of roadwork is necessary when the snow is here.
Well, it is all gone, and the chances for a white christmas in Stavanger are small.

And the winner is.....

Well done to class 2A at Buøy school, who won this years prize at Stavanger Aftenblad!
(Our main newspaper.)
Look at all the artistic work that has been put in to this.

New office buildings.

A couple of months back the company Troll finished their new 9200m2 office building.
It is based in the Hinna Park area, close to several other big companies, the train station, a big residential area, as well as several restaurants and shops.

I like the style of it and the different materials on the facade, as well as the splash of bright colors around some of the windows compared to many other buildings.

Signs of Christmas are everywhere now.

Skagen 18

If you want to go to "The Danish bakery", at least that is what it used to be called, you will find not only a very old and cosy house, but also plenty of choice.

Sunday, 15 December 2013

Faith Baptist Church.

Just passing..... when I went for an evening walk at Ullandhaug.
I am sure we have a Baptist church/community here in Stavanger, but I think that this is for English speaking people.

I spotted her straight away, the smiling Maria Gill, who told me she was "half way" through doing her Christmas shopping.
Well done, Maria!

X-mas pub.

Another image taken a few days back.
This is from the area near the harbor and one of the pubs decorated like a landmark.
Some love it, some find it tacky.
What is your opinion?

The road Madlaveien.

If you continue heading straight forward from yesterdays posting, the art gallery, you will come here.
To the left you will also get a glimpse of the little lake, Mosvannet.

Wednesday, 11 December 2013

KUNSTGALLERIET, the art gallery in Madlaveien is well worth visiting.
Take a look at their webpage: http://www.kunstgalleriet.no

The snow has melted, but this is how it looked a few days back.

Tuesday, 10 December 2013

Eva, Sandra and Mia.

Eva, Sandra and Mia are all active handball players at FGI. (Forus and Gausel IL)

Saturday they were selling raffle tickets to raise money for the club.
(Did I win? Yes, a nice shampoo and conditioner.)

Monday, 9 December 2013

Winter in the garden.

Sunday, 8 December 2013

Sporty people.

More snow.
Yesterday I noticed these two smiling sporty people jogging in town!

(At the back you can see the top of the Cathedral and the fish market.)

Saturday, 7 December 2013

The storm has quietened down now, but there was a lot of damage around!
More cars are out on the road again.

Friday, 6 December 2013

The Rica Airport Hotel.

STORM outside!

This is from the Rica Airport Hotel.
I like the style and the beautiful details.

The airport has been closed part of the day, due to the very strong wind!

Thursday, 5 December 2013

The Lion King.

He had just arrived back from Kristiansand last night, after having given a speech at the hotel next to the Zoo. I guess he was paid for his speech, but as a memento, he was also presented with this splendid Lion who even got a free seat next to him on the plane back to Stavanger.

Wednesday, 4 December 2013

Work in progress.

I hope they will get most of the work outside the building done quickly.
We will have SNOW (and storms) soon.

Tuesday, 3 December 2013

Morning has broken.

Good morning from Stavanger!
