Daily life in Stavanger:

My friend is VERY pregnant. Not many more days to wait:)

Out for a walk this afternoon with a friend who lives near to this building.

It has become a church.

Faith Baptist Church, and when we passed it, they had a notice board with info. in English, and showing that there were things happening several evenings during the week.

Visiting a museum in the old part of Stavanger, I discovered a bit of ancient architecture,"Utedo". Directly translated that means an outside loo.

I did not look inside, but I promise to show you a photo from the interior. Not because the "toilet" itself is so unique, but I have heard it is a place where people put up photos of the Royal Family. That is not a joke.... :)

Sometimes there are so many things happening at the same time, and it is impossible to do or take part in half of what I want..... Well, I made sure yesterday that I went to http://www.stavanger-kulturhus.no/kapittel where I listened to, and met, one of my favorite Norwegian writers, TOVE NILSEN, who also signed one of her books that I am actually reading just now, and I was therefore still carrying it around in my bag :)

The Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration, via the politicians have given all parents 46 weeks paid leave after a new baby is born. The father is entitled to some of these weeks, and more and more men use this opportunity spread in the way that best suits their family and job situation.

Under my umbrella...... I have my dreams,- and I have nice memories from last weekend at the French Riviera:)

Splash-splash!! I have "parked" my summer shoes.

It will be Wellingtons for some time now......

It is getting colder, and I think it is time to buy some "garn" as we call the material used for knitting.... I don't intend starting on a huge project, but they had some nice jumpers etc. that looked both nice and warm in the shop I visited.

Now knitting has become trendy again, and many people attend courses all over Norway.

I am not really a boat person, but I do like to look at them.....

More and more people who are living in flats, add more windows around their balconies/terraces to protect against noise from traffic and also to save some money on the electricity bill. It also makes the balcony area more usable in the winter months.

Still a few trolls left, but many of them have been bought by tourists from all over the world....

A nice place to go for Sunday lunch ( or any other day) is this Greek restaurant, Akropolis.

I think I will spend time and money somewhere else!

Along the Gandsfjord, halfway between Sandnes and Stavanger.

There is quite a lot of controversy about running power lines over the fjords and the effect on tourism. These days the politicians have had to backtrack and are now discussing running the power cables under water. As you can see I added my own touch of power to this image.

Not fun to see someone working high up with heavy stuff and not wearing a helmet!

I spotted him outside the building.... and stopped the car to take the photo through the front car window..... I hope he did not fall down with the BIG window over him!!

There are lots of building activities around everywhere, so the financial situation must be better than some months back.

Look WHO I passed in Stavanger today...

( I will try to find out more about who is the artist etc.)

I suddenly found myself being part of a workshop at an art center today.

Sitting in a group embroidering a persons name, one of many names of girls who have disappeared in Mexico.

This exhibition/workshop is run by the artist, Lise Bjørne Linnert.

There was also a documentary film about the disappearances, which was very strong and unforgettable.

When I came back I "googled" the Mexican name, "Ciudad Juarez", and found out even more......

ART can open eyes, and I have to say that TODAY my thoughts have been far away...

About 2300 people have been taking part in these 166 workshops, that have been taking place in several countries since 2006. The next workshop will be in London, and the work will continue as long as necessary.

Well, this was a clear message that I saw this morning.....

I was doing some work on my laptop at the library today, and noticed these 3 young students busy working nearby.

The school had a "theme day" outside the school, so there was quite a lot of work happening around the library area.

I just want to show you the program from "Rått og Råde" a festival with live music, that took place last Thursday- Friday and Saturday evening.

If you click on the http://www.rxr.no and then on "program" you will see that there was a huge variety of music for both young and those not sooooo young. What type of music do YOU like??

Out shopping,- when the SALES were on. Suddenly I saw my city differently through a window I had not noticed before.... It does not look that different from other cities I think....

Perhaps we have more houses made of brick than I was aware of?

A few weeks back my husband and I walked up to Dalsnuten. A mountain with a fantastic view over Sandnes and Stavanger. On the way up we met Eric from Minnesota, his sister in law from the Netherlands, together with the two dogs.

They were some of the many people out for a walk in the nice weather. I know that Eric was going to become a dad very soon, and aunty, who also was the sporty type, might still be around in Stavanger to greet the new family member. (I sometimes find it difficult to just put out one photo..... and my archive has photos waiting to be put out....sorry about that.)

Anyway, congratulations to the family! And I hope all is well with the international family!

We have SUNSHINE, and it feels good!:)

"Open Air Market" is the Theme Day subject for September.

We used to have a busy market near the harbor, but it has been moved up to the area in front of the Cathedral. The old place is mainly empty and filled with imported mass produced items, a bit like "plastic-fantastic", fake football t-shirts and sun-glasses.

I had wished it would have been a place to sell local handcrafts -handmade products by local people.

According to the text on the van: Irene is selling good Norwegian products, and you will even receive a big SMILE if you buy from her....

I do like the place, but I still think the old market was better.

Anyway, there are nice flowers and good products, but I guess most people buy most of these products from their local shops.
